Faculty Lecturer Communication Studies/Mass Media

Summary:
Utah Valley University invites applications for a Faculty Lecturer to teach Journalism and Mass Media courses in the Department of Communication to begin August 2021. This position is reoccurring. The successful candidate will teach a variety of classes, including news reporting and editing, writing for the mass media, media ethics, media representation, visual communication, and other courses offered by the department in the candidate's specialty.

This is a teaching position of a 5/5 load with no expectations of research/scholarship or service. 100% of the applicant's duties will consist of teaching in the classroom, meeting with students, syllabus and course content creation, and assessment of student performance.

The Department of Communication currently consists of close to 20 full-time faculty members and numerous adjunct faculty members from the community. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an M.A. or M.S. in a communication-specific field. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.


Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of online course design and teaching. Ability to articulate a diverse/multicultural approach to teaching preferred. Experience in digital journalism, social media analytics, and content creation are preferred.


Physical Requirements:
May be required to teach online, blended, distance education, off-campus or evening courses.
Requires standing, sitting, and speaking.
