About the Position:
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is driven by student success. We are seeking a Vice Provost. The Vice Provost should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost is responsible for supporting strategic initiatives and cross-divisional projects and processes within Academic Affairs and between Academic Affairs and the broader campus. The Vice Provost supports and implements the strategic vision of the Provost and serves as the administrator-in-charge of the Division in the absence of the Provost. They represent the Provost on campus, in the community, and within the region; and at the system level on matters delegated by the Provost. This position works with the Provost to advance the strategic priorities of the University and oversees operations and initiatives that report to and are funded by the Provost.

The Vice Provost serves on the Academic Council and is a member of both the Associate Vice President's Council and the Council of Deans. In this capacity, the Vice Provost ensures that projects that extend beyond the day-to-day operation of our Colleges and AVP units can be undertaken cohesively, intentionally, and successfully. In addition, this position works between the Provost and the President's Office and Cabinet on cross-campus collaborations such as Instructional Planning and Forecasting, the Strategic Plan, GI 2025, Strategic Enrollment Management, and our Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Justice efforts. The Vice Provost also supports the Provost in partnership work with the Academic Senate, ensuring collaborative projects between the two bodies are well-coordinated and effectively communicated to the broader campus community, such as the upcoming work re-examining our General Education requirements. The Vice Provost also, as time allows, undertakes projects as assigned by the Provost. These might include researching an issue, engaging various stakeholders, and bringing back recommendations. Further, the Vice Provost works with the COO and Executive Director of Academic Finances and Space Management in the Provost's Office to provide a faculty perspective on matters of budget, staffing, and space planning within the division. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Experience as a Department Chair, Associate Dean, Center Director, or Dean or similar leadership position. Experience managing change processes at the department and college or campus level. Experience leading committees and working groups beyond one’s home department. Experience championing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the department, college, or campus level. Achievement of rank of Tenured Associate Professor. Demonstrated interest in student success including direct work with students as a faculty member and the facilitation of student success through collaborative processes at the department, college, or campus level. Experience collaborating with staff

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the CSUF Academic Senate. Knowledge of CSU system policies. At least three years of experience at Cal State Fullerton. Prior leadership training (through FDC/FSS or external). Experience with campus budget processes. Experience with program development or redesign (for example: redesigning curriculum, collaborating on a department or college strategic plan, starting a new program). Experience collaborating on projects with faculty and staff. Experience with staff management/supervision. Knowledge of policies and procedures at CSUF. Achievement of the Rank of Professor. Excellent communication skills - written and speaking. Proven ability to elevate others, individually or collectively. Excellent collaborative skills
