Director of Development
Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Development will work to devise and execute a strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts at the leadership annual giving and major giving levels, as well as cultivate, solicit and steward planned gifts on behalf of the Stockton University Foundation and in support of university-wide funding priorities. The Director will also supervise the two Associate Directors of Development. The Director will work collaboratively with individual donors, prospects, alumni and other stakeholders in the Stockton community to improve and enhance relationships with these key constituencies in ways that will have a quantifiable impact on fundraising goals. The Director will contribute to the institution’s fundraising campaigns, programs and initiatives, and will embrace goal-oriented outcomes and a heightened level of engagement with key constituencies.

- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts of $25,000 and above in a portfolio of major giving and planned giving prospects and donors
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward leadership annual giving gifts as needed
- Oversee all annual giving appeals/campaigns and special/fundraising events through supervision of Associate Directors of Development
- Conduct significant numbers of face-to-face visits with prospects and donors per year, allocating the majority of time to direct fundraising efforts. Travel as needed throughout the state and other assigned regions to cultivate key constituencies with an interest in supporting Stockton’s strategic priorities
- Manage active prospect portfolio and track all solicitation assignments and progress through contact reports. Prepare major and planned giving proposals, solicitation letters and other cultivation and presentation materials for prospects and donors
- Develop annual fundraising goals and objectives in consultation with the Executive Director of Development, creating a strategic plan to research and identify new prospects and expand the prospect and donor pools within the University Foundation’s database
- Assist Executive Director of Development and Chief Development Officer in the creation of plans, strategies, priorities and materials related to the next capital/comprehensive campaign
- Work collaboratively with other Development and Alumni Relations staff to support overall fundraising goals. Partner with Alumni Relations to identify and cultivate new alumni donors through philanthropic engagement, events and communications
- Collaborate with Advancement Services staff to ensure accurate and timely handling of all donor gifts, contact information and acknowledgements
- Serve as a representative of Stockton, the University Foundation and the Development team at community and University events and activities
- Demonstrate, through past accomplishments and actions, the ability to support Stockton’s commitment to diversity and an understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities
- Ability to work collaboratively with campus partners and other internal and external stakeholders to advance the University's mission and strategic priorities
- Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
- Support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three years of professional fundraising experience in higher education, non-profit organizations or equivalent experience
- Proven track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals
- Proven ability to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to think strategically, effectively analyze data and implement data-informed decisions
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of industry-wide best practices and the ability to implement those practices into the University Foundation’s fundraising program
- Ability to exercise appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with prospects, donors, alumni and colleagues. Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information
- Familiarity with current standard technology including Windows, the Microsoft Office suite, customer relationship management software and others
- Master’s degree
- Five years of professional fundraising experience in higher education, non-profit organizations or equivalent experience
