  • and Entrepreneurship and Innovation. To support these strategic initiatives, the School of Business is playing a significant role in three new university initiatives: the Institute for Digital InnovAtion (IDIA); the Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE); and the School of Computing.

 

About the Position:

The Research Communications and Outreach Officer will work with School of Business faculty to publicize their high-impact research and showcase this research on a variety of platforms to maximize impact.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with School of Business faculty to publicize and increase the impact of their research output, including co-writing and occasionally authoring practice-oriented articles and related materials;
  • Curate a featured website making these materials widely available, and of a style, content, and currency that aspires to compete with top business schools globally;
  • Support increasing numbers of faculty to bring their research and related ideas into practice-oriented form and maximize their circulation and impact;
  • Work with others in the School and University to develop thought leadership related webinars, podcasts, virtual and physical events, and other means of outreach and impact for Mason’s work;
  • Occasionally work with the Dean on thought leadership pieces;
  • Contribute articles to Impact magazine and other School publications;
  • Form close connection with University VP for Communications and work to maximize Mason’s broader impact as well as that of the School of Business;
  • Consult with both University and School Marcomms teams on Website and related issues, working to raise our game, our presence, and our reputation.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree plus a minimum of three years of professional experience in writing, editing, public relations and promotion or a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience;
  • Experience in management- and/or science-related writing, editing, publication layout, or production;
  • Experience in writing in a variety of different styles for various channels and audiences;
  • Experience in content creation suitable for multiple channels including web, major media, e-newsletter, social media, and other channels and communications vehicles;
  • Experience writing for multiple audiences including the public, alumni, corporate, donors, students, news media and the academic community;
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of researchers to make their work accessible to broader audiences;
  • Experience contributing to the production of high-profile projects, publications;
  • Experience handling multiple tasks and changing priorities in a deadline-sensitive environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education;
  • Experience formatting and posting web content using a content management system;
  • Experience as an editor or project manager;
  • Experience editing using AP Style.
