Wilkes University invites applicants for a Technical Director, a full-time position in the Division of Performing Arts. This position will begin in summer 2021. Responsibilities include: serving as Technical Director for the Division of Performing Arts season of performances (includes two musicals, two plays, one dance concert and several music concerts); producing cost analysis, construction drawings (drafting) and build/load-in schedules for each production in cooperation with other areas; attending tech/dress rehearsals of shows as well as a majority of  performances; teaching courses in the technical production area that may include stagecraft, stage rigging, welding, drafting, advanced stagecraft or introductory design as well as supervision of associated lab work.; maintaining clean and safe scene shop, stage and storage facilities; maintaining an inventory of tools and shop equipment; building scenery and overseeing student crews; and supervising staffing for additional events in the Darte Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in theatre with an emphasis in technical production plus a minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in theatrical scenery construction, welding, stage rigging, and budget management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to effectively collaborate with others.


Preferred Qualifications

  • F.A. in Design/Technical Direction or related area with an emphasis on theatre design plus a minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Two years of university level teaching experience.


Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
