Program Manager

General Summary/Purpose

The Roger C. Lipitz Center for Integrated Health Care, based in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, conducts research, educates the leaders of tomorrow, and translates discoveries into effective policies and practices to improve the quality of care and quality of life of persons with complex health needs and disabilities. The Center focuses on challenges and opportunities associated with aging and disability that pertain to delivery and financing of affordable, accessible, high-quality health care and long-term services and supports. TheCenterseeks a Program Manager with knowledge and interests in aging and disability, strong communication skills, and expertise in project management to work closely with the Director and core faculty to advance the mission and strategic vision of the Center.

The Program Manager will plan, design, implement, and manage communications and community outreach to elevate visibility and build awareness of the Center and its research, practice, and educational activities. In addition to a commitment to excellence in operations, the position requires leadership skills and a commitment to the Center mission. The Program Manager will promote the Center and its work through written and oral communications and visual content, fostering relationships with local, regional and national media outlets and Centers across the University. The Manager will be responsible for identifying, monitoring, and communicating relevant funding opportunity announcements to faculty and students and through electronic distribution channels.

The Program Manager will work closely with the Director on policy- and practice-oriented sponsored research activities. Responsibilities will include project management, budgeting, supporting presentation and manuscript development, administering subcontracts, coordinating activities with partner Centers and institutions, and assisting with the submission and management of IRB applications.

The Program Manager will additionally work closely with the leadership of an inter-disciplinary pre- and post-doctoral fellowship training program in Health Services and Outcomes Research for Aging Populations funded by the National Institute on Aging. The Program Manager will manage day-to-day activities, including: the recruitment, selection, and appointment of trainees; the organization and logistics of a Training Program seminar and practicum; the convening of an External Advisory Board; and systems for collecting data and reporting on trainee and Training Program progress in an annual progress report submitted to the National Institute on Aging.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Work closely with the Director to provide administrative leadership for the Roger C. Lipitz Center for Integrated Care, including defining, prioritizing, and managing Center activities critical to the functions within and across multiple projects with attention to timelines, budgets, and expectations, including management of risks and contingency planning (20%).

o Work with Center Director to prepare annual reports for the Center and project-specific progress reports for funders, including the National Institute on Aging in support of the Health Services and Outcomes Research Training Program (20%).

o Participate as a member of collaborative research study teams in study design, data collection and analysis. Develop, maintain, and monitor project timelines and deliverables for research projects, including oversight of logistics and coordination of study team, documentation of minutes, management of data use agreements, developing presentations and drafting sections of manuscripts of study progress and findings (50%).

o Plan, coordinate and announce on and off campus meetings and special events including lectures, seminars, and team/Center meetings. Collaborate with Center Director and Communications Associate in the Department of Health Policy and Management to maintain external facing communications via updating the Center website, blog posts, social media accounts, and quarterly newsletters (10%).

The position is contingent upon funding (5-year initial funding).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degreein Gerontology, Public Health, Communications, or related field.

5 years of relevant work experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

    Related Master's preferred Experience in research and education environments providing project and/or program management preferred. Experience in aging and disability policy strongly preferred. Experience managing complex budgets. Project management.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The program manager possesses excellent project management skills including outstanding skills in communication, scheduling, critical thinking, task management, and personal organization. The program manager will interact with faculty members and staff throughout the University and individuals outside the University, so strong interpersonal communication skills are essential. He/she must maintain a team-oriented approach and possesses the ability to cultivate positive and collegial workplace relationships. Dependability and attention to detail will be vital to success in the position.

    Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Excellent written, verbal, web-based and social media skills. Writing examples will be requested. Ability to prioritize and multitask: experience with project coordination/project management preferred. Work well with multidisciplinary teams in diverse environments. Ability to function independently with a high degree of self-motivation is essential. Demonstrate optimal time management skills, balancing time required for Center communications and outreach with sponsored research activities Highly organized; organizational and team management skills are essential. Interests in aging, disability, and long-term care. Willingness to work on campus and travel offsite as needed Valid driver’s license. Have own transportation
