General Summary/Purpose:
The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will independently manage the day-to-day activities of qualitative and network research related to substance use and infectious disease prevention in Baltimore. The research studies will involve working directly with people who currently use or formerly used drugs.These projects require persistence, attention to detail, and for the individual to be self-motivated and to work and solve problems. This position would ideally require at least a 1-year commitment, with longer time commitments preferred. Manuscript authorship and other research opportunities are available pending the candidate’s interest.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

This research is nested within a larger ongoing study. The coordinator’s role will be to focus on new activities nested within the larger study context.Activities will include:

  • Coordinating outreach and recruitment efforts for a difficult-to-reach population.
  • Implementing data collection procedures, including conducting qualitative interviews, piloting and implementing network surveys and mobile assessments.
  • Conducting analysis of qualitative data.
  • Completing administrative tasks including coordinating participant reimbursement.
  • Overseeing transcription services, and IRB correspondence.
  • The coordinator will work on implementing activities for sub-studies focused on specific sub-populations or areas of interest within the larger study.
  • The coordinator will ensure that all procedures are in place to follow the various relevant study protocols.
  • As an active member of the larger research team, the individual will take part in recruitment, consenting participants for specific activities, enrollment in specific sub-studies and scheduling follow-up with certain participants as needed. Taking a leadership role for these specific activities will be necessary, as will working within the context of a larger study team and coordinating activities within the overall study.
  • The coordinator will be responsible for maintaining IRB approval for the specific sub-studies.
  • The coordinator will ensure that standard operating procedures for each research study are available and will work with the PIs to change operating procedures where necessary.
  • They will prepare and submit IRB annual renewal requests, changes to research protocols, and will alert the IRB to concerns as needed according institutional requirements.
  • The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will also participate in the dissemination of project data. Assisting the PIs with manuscript preparation and submission, other academic and administrative responsibilities, and coordination of team meetings will also be necessary.

Abilities needed:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills are absolute requirements for this position.
  • The candidate must have an interest in working with and developing rapport with study participants who currently use or have formerly used drugs.
  • This position will require interaction with community members and stakeholders important to the population.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with people who use drugs or similar vulnerable populations.
  • Expertise in collection of survey and/or social network data.
  • Knowledge and experience with data collection occurring by phone, using mobile apps, or other electronic devices.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in qualitative data software.
  • Record of ability to prioritize complex assignments and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to independently manage execution of multiple studies, research protocols, and IRB procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, and bibliographic software.
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Familiarity with survey research and basic data collection procedures.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
