General Summary/Purpose:

The Research Program Coordinator for the Neuroplasticity and Development Lab is responsible for coordinating, managing, and implementing the research activities of the lab. Under the supervision of a faculty investigator, the Research Program Coordinator manages neuroimaging data analysis infrastructure, writes and maintains the data analysis scripts, performs analyses of neuroimaging data, implements experimental designs, schedules and runs participants in behavioral and fMRI experiments, maintains records of research participants (consent forms, HIPAA agreements, screening agreements), and manages the general administration of the lab. This is a full-time position contingent on the availability of funds.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Programming, Data Analysis, and Data Management

  • Setup and maintain neuroimaging analysis infrastructure, including writing and maintaining data analysis scripts
  • Code scripts for stimulus presentation and behavioral data collection
  • Develop and implement online experiments for remote behavioral testing
  • Maintain data analysis server
  • Conduct data analysis of neuroimaging and behavioral data to determine proper recording of data, and whether data makes sense based upon calibrations and scientific hypothesis.
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant participant database
  • Maintain data archives
  • Organize study files

General Lab Administration

  • Collaborate with PI on design and implementation of standard operating procedures
  • Attend and take notes at lab meetings
  • Supervise undergraduate research assistants
  • Review scanning invoices for correctness
  • Liaise between PBS administrative office and other entities as necessary regarding invoice payment
  • Order lab supplies and maintain lab equipment as necessary

Working with Research Participants

  • Assist blind research-participant recruiter
  • Aid in recruitment efforts including consenting research participants, scheduling participant testing, conducting phone and in-person screenings
  • Coordinate participant visits, collect data, maintain records and regulatory documentation

Protocol Management

  • Collaborate with PI on IRB protocols
  • Liaise between lab and IRB
  • Prepare all necessary forms and paperwork related to research protocols
  • Prepare and submit any Adverse and Serious Adverse Event Reports to JHU IRB

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Some related experiencerequired.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related fields.
  • Computer programming skills (shell scripting, Python, and/or Java, C++ or similar), strongly preferred
  • Some basic coursework in statistics.
  • Previous research experience in experimental psychology or cognitive neuroscience.
  • Candidates whose degrees are not in psychology or neuroscience will still be considered if their background is relevant to the job description.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interest in psychology and/or neuroscience.
  • Strong computer programming skills (e.g., shell scripting, Python, and/or Matlab, Java, C++ or similar).
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics and knowledge of statistical software (preferred).
  • Good organizational and intrapersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in groups.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite, email software, Adobe, internet browser.
  • WordPress and SAP experience helpful, but not required.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
