Position Summary:

This position is in the Sample Acquisition Service (SAS), a core service of the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC). The Sample Acquisition Service provides expertise from skilled professionals for the processing, tracking, storage, and shipment of biological specimens collected as part of clinical trials of new anticancer agents and chemoprevention. The SAS is part of the Drug Development Core's Cancer Pharmacology Lab. ( )

This role provides processing, tracking, storage, and shipment of biological specimens collected, which includes plasma, serum, blood, saliva, tissue, and cells. They work directly with our clinical research Disease Oriented Teams (DOTs) in gathering information and providing service. The Research Specialist plays an essential part of clinical trials of new anticancer agents and chemoprevention. Within the core they will work with an online database, provide storage at optimal temperatures, ship daily, and coordinate hazardous materials. They will also be making solutions, pipetting, provide back-up to skilled analytical chemistry, and utilize techniques and equipment.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BS/BA required. Area of specialization in Biology, Biochemistry or related field preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Experience with sample collection and sample processing is preferred.
-Experience with quality assurance and good laboratory practices is preferred.
-Experience with databases is preferred including data entry, maintenance and generating reports.
-Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills are required.

-Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience.

Additional Information:

-This position is at risk for exposure to Hepatitis B; vaccination will be required at time of employment.
-Employment contingent upon results of criminal background check.
-The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment.
