Job Summary

We are encouraging applications for a Research Associate at the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC)/Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), at the University of Colorado, to conduct innovative research in the areas of understanding the “variability and change of oceanic conditions over the Northeast US coast induced by climate modes (e.g., ENSO, NAO, and Indian Ocean basin mode) and external forcing (funded by NOAA)” and “role of Indian Ocean in generating decadal climate variability (funded by NSF)”. The postdoc will reside in ATOC.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Perform research in observational analysis using statistic tools with modeling experiments using coupled global climate models (e.g., NCAR’s Community Earth System Model) and ocean models. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Weiqing Han and Dr. Mike Alexander, in collaboration with the Climate Change Research section at NCAR (Dr. Gerald A Meehl and Aixue Hu).

What You Should Know

The initial appointment is for one year with possible renewal for the second year or longer contingent upon performance and availability of funds. The position may start in the summer of 2021 or on a mutually agreeable date.

What We Can Offer

The salary range is $65,000 - $68,000, commensurate with experience.

What We Require

At the time of appointment, the successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography, atmospheric or climate sciences. Statistical data analysis skills are required.

What We Would Like You To Have

Modeling experience – particularly for running coupled climate models or running ocean models.
