Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating co-curricular programming to include the Leadership Lecture Series, the Lost & Found Concert Series, and artistic and cultural programming to include film, music, and visual arts. As the Ann Flack Boseman Art Gallery’s curator, this position works with an undergraduate intern and faculty and campus partners to curate 4-6 exhibits yearly. Also, the Assistant Director provides leadership for programming designed to engage and enhance the experience of graduate students. The position hires, trains, and supervises graduate assistant(s) and undergraduate student interns to develop and implement programming and marketing. The Assistant Director hires, trains, and supervises the Campus Life marketing team responsible for departmental marketing initiatives, including, but not limited to social media account management, website content, copy and design editing, video editing and more. The Assistant Director will incorporate student development theory and best practices in student affairs, high-impact practices, and applied learning into supervision and program development.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
•Master’s degree
• Knowledge of social media platforms
• Experience in supervision incorporating student development theory
• Demonstrated success in programming to a diverse audience
• Experience in developing employee trainings grounded in Student Development Theory
• Knowledge and experience in program development and evaluation
• Experience utilizing assessment data to inform programming and business practices
• Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Knowledge of design software preferred
• Knowledge of program planning, and performance contract processes, preferably in a higher education setting
• Facility management experience – preference given to experience with art galleries or public art
• Knowledge of basic budgeting principles
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Computer literacy with the ability to learn new applications independently, specifically social media and design platforms including The Adobe Creative Suite, Canva,
• Ability to organize and effectively present information to groups or individuals in various formats
• Ability to be an effective supervisor, spokesperson (good oral and written communication skills)
• Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, initiative, and independence
• Energy, ability, and willingness to work nights and weekends throughout the programming season
• Excellent writing and editing abilities and experience
• Demonstrated ability to finish projects on time and under tight deadlines and to keep several projects or jobs moving forward at one time
• Provide sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with a variety of personalities and situations
