The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.
Position Summary
The Lead Teacher supports the mission of the Campus Child Center by working
collaboratively with colleagues to design and implement an inclusive and supportive curriculum based on the interests and needs of children ranging in age one to five, to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the center facility, to provide training for student staff and parent education to families served, and to learn, uphold, and follow all of the state licensing and national accreditation regulations stipulated for group child care.
Required Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Child Development or degree in related field
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, developmentally appropriate learning environment for the children served.
• One year of experience in an early childhood setting.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Child Development or degree in related field.
• Previous experience in a nationally accredited early childhood setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate experience working in a team environment.
• Display an appreciation of the role families play in a child’s development.
• Value the importance of play in child development.

• Ability to lift and carry 20-30#.
• Routine stopping, bending, walking, running, and crouching.
• Ability to sit on the floor or in a small chair situated low to the floor.
Working conditions and environment
The 88.5% appointment reflects a 40-hour work week comprising a 40-week period of
time with direct teaching responsibilities, plus additional time allocated for completing continuing education requirements, prep and program planning, center maintenance, attendance at family events, preparation and implementation of parent/teacher conferences, and service to the profession (guest-speaking engagements, conference planning, etc.).

• Monitor the physical safety and well-being of the children in the program’s care and especially of those assigned to his/her group.
• Promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development of each child in the program’s care with special emphasis placed on the children in his/her group.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate small group activities.
• Plan and establish learning center activities.
• Prepare and implement large group music and story sessions.
• Engage in authentic assessment of the growth and development of each child in their group and keep a current and accurate assessment file for each child.
• Attend and provide input at staff meetings.
• Assist in the development of long-range plans for the improvement of services.
• Assist colleagues in keeping the Center in compliance with all state licensing requirements and national accreditation standards.
• Help accomplish routine tasks regarding health and safety of the children and the maintenance of the program in accordance with local, state, and national regulations and standards.
