Job Summary: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah seeks a full-time faculty member in Law at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting August 2021. We welcome candidates whose teaching ensures student success, whose research is current within the legal profession, and whose service is undertaken to promote their citizenship in the School and University.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  A balance between instruction, research/scholarship, and service will be required for continued professional advancement. The teaching load is eight courses per year (a 4/4 load) at the undergraduate level. However, the individual appointed to this position will also serve as Program Coordinator, receiving a one-course per semester teaching load reduction to accommodate the administrative responsibilities.  Candidates are expected to have experience in promoting active learning by students through the use of high-impact educational practices. The program currently offers a B.A. degree in Private Law. Candidates must be prepared to teach classes required by the Major curriculum degree plan. Ideal candidates will have experience with, and interest in, providing educational opportunities to students through a curriculum where the learners advance their understanding of best legal practices, and of the relationship between legal studies and the world of business.  Additionally, the candidate will be willing to advise students about job opportunities associated with the legal expertise gained through the program, and assisting them in identifying appropriate internship placements. Service expectations, in addition to the administrative responsibilities of Program Coordinator, include participating in school and university committees and contributing to the discipline through involvement with professional associations.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Law from an accredited institution, relevant teaching experience with evidence of use of high-impact educational practices, and a coherent research agenda with a record of indexed scholarly publications. Acquaintance with the legal and paralegal fields germane to the UAE/GCC is an advantage. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Strong academic and professional qualifications with three or more years of legal practice experience in the GCC; history of working effectively with globally diverse student populations; demonstrated experience with program development; and, commitment to the goals of the Law Program and its curricular and instructional methods.

Candidates must be prepared to teach both lower and upper division Arabic language classes, to both native and non-native speakers of Arabic. Ideal candidates will have experience with, and interest in, teaching classes designated as Writing-Intensive. Service expectations include participating in school and university committees and contributing to the discipline through involvement with professional associations.

Minimum Qualifications:  PhD in Arabic, or closely related field from an accredited University, relevant teaching experience with evidence of use of high-impact educational practices, and a coherent research agenda with a record of indexed scholarly publications.

Preferred Qualifications:  History of working effectively within General Education programs, teaching both native and non-native speakers of Arabic.

3.  Assistant Professor in Mathematics

Job Summary: The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Ras al Khaimah (AURAK) seeks to hire a faculty member at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2021. Prior successful teaching experience at the university level employing high-impact educational practices to promote active learning by students and experience in working effectively with globally diverse student populations are expected.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The faculty will teach a maximum of four (4) courses per semester. Ideal candidates will have experience with, and interest in, teaching classes to undergraduates who find the study of Mathematics challenging. Instruction will include teaching introductory-level courses as well as preparatory courses for engineering programs.

Qualifications: a PhD degree in Mathematics from an accredited university is required. Prior successful teaching experience is expected. Medium of instruction at AURAK is English; hence, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are also required. An ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines would be an asset.
