Job Description:

Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.

 

Germanna is currently seeking a Coordinator for Equity Advancement. The primary purpose of this position is to advocate for students and employees through diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at Germanna Community College. The role of the Coordinator for Equity Advancement will be to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the College and throughout the campus community. The Coordinator for Equity Advancement directs the Multicultural Student Center and assists with the promotion and implementation of equity programming, initiatives, and projects. This position provides academic and advising support for the Gladys P. Todd Academy and serves as an advisory resource to students, faculty, and staff. This position collaborates across the institution for the purpose of advancing equity.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Facilitate a collaborative space that supports students from underrepresented and marginalized communities, while empowering all students to understand diverse experiences of their peers
  • Promote cultural fluency through co-curricular programming, leadership opportunities and engagement activities
  • Serve in an advising capacity and support multicultural clubs and student organizations
  • Develop and oversee equity training for student leaders and club/organization advisors
  • Work closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning on equity programming
  • Provide student support and academic advising for students in the Gladys P. Todd Academy (GPTA)
  • Serve as embedded advisor for GPTA courses
  • Serve as liaison between Student Services and the GPTA Program
  • Facilitate GPTA college readiness programming and academic support
  • Provide confidential advisory support for students, faculty, and staff and serve as liaison between those constituencies and the administration on equity issues and concerns
  • Serve as consultant and resource for college departments on equity initiatives
  • Collaborate with Care Team and Counseling Services to identify and implement intervention strategies for at-risk student populations
  • Assist with the promotion and coordination of peer, staff/community mentoring for Gladys P. Todd Academy, Great Expectations and African American male students. Supervise staff assigned to the mentoring program
  • Benchmark external equity best practices, identify new strategies and provide recommendations to strengthen key performance indicators including enrollment, retention, and completion

KSA’s/Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, educational leadership or related field
  • One year of experience in higher education, K-12 education or related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing recruitment and/or retention-based programs for historically underrepresented and marginalized students
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion
  • Demonstration of strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Demonstration of strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues and exercise good judgement

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in higher education, K-12 education, or related field
  • Community College Experience
  • Experience in academic advising
  • Experience with student activities
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations to groups
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and within the community
  • Ability to analyze, track and present data
  • Demonstrates experience in student-based programming and training related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

 

Required Travel: May be required to travel to other campus locations, system meetings, and professional conferences and development opportunities.
