Full-time position available on or after September 14, 2020 in the Office of Academic Technology.
Under general direction of the Director of Academic Technology, this position will assist faculty with the design, development, and delivery of media-rich, fully online courses and degree programs, streaming video courses and/or courses taught using video conferencing technologies. Maintains both a broad and deep understanding of contemporary pedagogical issues. Applies concepts of universal design to course material development to ensure accessibility of persons with a variety of disabilities. Coordinates with other staff as necessary to assemble required course elements. Develops and delivers innovative training on new and effective course delivery methods with an emphasis on learning management system-based online instruction, universal access, technology integration, and copyright. Works one-on-one with faculty to develop and provide technical support and guidance for online course development. Advocates the use of technology to improve instruction and provides faculty with high quality multimedia services, instructional development, innovative technology development programs, hardware and software advice and recommendations, produces instructional media projects from script writing through post-production and compiles formative summary evaluations. Documents successful projects using paper, journal articles or conference presentations. Works with the Director of Academic Technology and OIT to coordinate learning management system activities and faculty training initiatives.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Instructional Design and Development for Online Courses - In
collaboration with faculty, analyze instructional goals and
objectives, and timeline, to design, develop, and implement media
rich, online courses according to accepted instructional design
principles, current research, and accessibility guidelines. Conduct
formative and summative evaluations to further refine and enhance
online courses. Advise on confidentiality, course management and
testing strategies, integration of media into curricula,
accessibility criteria, and teaching for real-time, asynchronous,
synchronous, and face-to-face courses.
- Accessibility Recourses - Educate and assist faculty with
creating accessible new course materials or converting existing
ones to meet government legal standards such as the ADA and
Sections 508, as well as the CSU's Accessible Technology
Initiative. Advise on course design strategies, principles of
Universal Design for Learning, and work with Disability Resources
Services office to ensure faculty are fully aware and responsive to
students with special needs.
- Training - Develop, coordinate, and conduct a wide variety of
effective faculty technology training in both formal and informal
settings, at various level of expertise to various group sizes,
according to faculty needs; solicit written and verbal assessments
to improve existing training and expand offerings. Translate
technical concepts to a level appropriate to the user. Design and
produce training documents, self-guided tutorials, informational
flyers, user guides, manuals, media, etc.
- LMS Support - Advocate integration of course material into the
campus LMS for both hybrid and fully online courses. Provide
training and consultation, and serve as backup system
administrator. Assist faculty with course development and
modification. Provide regular representation of CSU Stanislaus in
any CSU system-wide LMS Common Interest Group.
- Web Conferencing Support - In coordination with OIT staff,
provide administrative and technical support for OIT's Zoom web
conferencing service, including user support and training, managing
LMS integrations, interaction with hosted technical support as
- Technical Resource - Meet with faculty to evaluate
instructional needs and conduct research on general and specific
topics. Based on present and future needs, compatibility, and
budget limitations, evaluate information and technology trends to
recommend and advise faculty and campus administrators on hardware
and software, equipment purchases, and technologies as appropriate
to budget, use, compatibility, and level of expertise.
- Media Production - In collaboration with Distance Learning and
Media Services staff or other campus departments, create scripts,
and storyboards, assist with the staging, recording, and editing of
media productions, and editing for distribution in various media
formats. Review final products with production staff and faculty
clients to ensure that desired goals have been achieved, and may
implement future revisions to include new or current
- Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot applications used in
teaching and learning by faculty, staff and students. Maintain
currency in the field of higher education in the areas of academic
technology. Research and evaluate current and emerging educational
technology for use in teaching, learning, and research.
- Representing the Office of Academic Technology, regularly
attend and contribute as a committee member and other university
academic or technology committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic
Education: Bachelor's degree in educational/instructional technology/design, computer science, information systems, communications or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design, including the integration of technology preferably in a higher education setting or similar experience in private industry multimedia design production.
- Master's Degree in Educational Technology or a related
- Thorough knowledge of LMS, such as Canvas or
- Thorough knowledge of desktop peripherals, mobile device
hardware and software (cellular phones, smartphones, etc.) and
computer and network-based multimedia devices.
- Thorough knowledge of personal computer hardware and software
including PC and Apple equipment, Microsoft, Windows, Apple OS,
Linux, Microsoft office and other common personal computer software
- A thorough understanding of multimedia systems, digital
production, and video/podcast creations.
- Experience administering and training others on LMS and related
software and applications.
- Ability to assist faculty with face-to-face, hybrid and on-line
instructions using LMS and related software.
- Ability to assess user needs and provide appropriate technical
- Ability to analyze and assist in finding solutions for issues
related to the use of LMS.
- Experience providing training in instructional design theories
and methodologies and demonstrating practical approaches to apply
them in a university environment.
- Ability to communicate technical, production and instructional

$4,372 - $10,792 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $4,372 - $5,416 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
