The Office of Risk Management at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Property Casualty Claims Specialist (Program Administration Specialist I) position. This position investigates reports of losses or damage to University property and personnel, collects data to support claims and submit claims to recover damages. Other duties include: maintains control of all claims using the University Risk Management software/spreadsheets and maintains claim files; completes insurance certificates; answers inquiries regarding the risk management program; reconciles accounts for self-insured property program on a monthly basis; maintains listing of property insured along with replacement cost values; provide training as needed for University departments.

Required Qualifications: Some claims experience with a commercial carrier in workers compensation, auto and property claims. Some experience administering property and casualty claims in a risk management environment. Previous experience in program monitoring and evaluating. Working knowledge of property and casualty and automobile insurance policies and the insurance claims process. Strong computer skills in computer software such as word processing and spreadsheet applications. Excellent communications skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people under stressful situations. Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage more than one project or claim at a time. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or related field or equivalent level of training and/or experience. Certification as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Associate in Claims (AIC). Prior experience in the administrative or facilities area of a large University. Working knowledge of large relational database software. Considerable experience with a variety of computer software such as word processing and spreadsheet applications. Prior experience in employee health and safety programs, insurance, or risk management environment. Some experience using automated financial systems such as the Banner Finance System.
