Columbia-Greene Community College seeks a full time Dean of Student Development who will support students in a nurturing, holistic, and inclusive environment and provide visionary leadership not only to the Division of Student Affairs but also to the College. The College seeks an individual who desires to become part of a creative, vibrant, and student-centered learning community and will foster a culture of student access and success, retention, and completion. Reporting to the Provost / Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to develop and assess co-curricular student learning outcomes and quality improvement.


The specific areas of responsibility currently include:

  • Accessibility Services
  • Athletics 
  • Career Success and Experiential Learning 
  • Health Services 
  • Registration and Records
  • Student Activities 



The ideal candidate will understand the benefits diversity brings to a learning and working environment. Therefore, the College seeks an individual with the ability to serve students from a broad range of cultural heritages, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, abilities, and orientations. In addition, the next Dean of Student Development will value mentorship and the opportunity to work in a collegial, collaborative environment, guided by a commitment to help all students achieve their educational goals. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the current higher education landscape – especially in light of the global pandemic. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field
  • Ability to effectively lead and advance the mission, vision, and values of a comprehensive community college through interactions with students, employees, and community members
  • Superior team-building and oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience working in a unionized setting, especially in higher education
  • Ability to lead strategic planning activities
  • Track record of developing engaging programs
  • Knowledge of New York state and federal regulations in higher education


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in student affairs or higher education administration
  • Five or more years of experience that demonstrate progressive responsibility
  • Demonstrated talent for relationship building with interior and external stakeholders
  • Well-formed leadership philosophy, honed listening skills, and experience delivering desired outcomes
  • Demonstrated expertise and understanding of all areas of student services
  • Experience with fiscal prudence and accountability


Salary and Benefit Information

Annual salary will commensurate with education and experience.
