MSW FIELD EDUCATION CLINICAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

DAEMEN COLLEGE

The Field Education Clinical Assistant Professor will be responsible for conducting field education seminars, provide supervision, and assist with all field-related activities for MSW Program students completing Distance Education coursework. This is a twelve-month appointment (anticipated start - September 2021).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume administrative responsibilities for field education experience for MSW Distance Education students (MSW Generalist Practice; MSW Advanced (Clinical) Practice) including ensuring compliance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Field Education accreditation standards;
  • Assist in development of field placement sites for MSW Distance Education students by establishing relationships with community stakeholders and ensuring appropriate opportunities for student practice experience;
  • Assist in identification of well-qualified field educators and task supervisors for field placement agencies;
  • Ensure that information about field placements opportunities is current and complete within electronic placement system;
  • Maintain relationships with agency field educators, task supervisors, and other appropriate agency personnel to strengthen partnerships and aid in the design of best practice learning experiences for students;
  • Help to prepare MSW Distance Education students for field education by supporting field education interview process; development of professional resumes; engagement of field-related development activities including interviewing skills; and assessment of field education readiness;
  • Assist in identification of potential field placements based on student/agency needs and interests and facilitate interview process;
  • Communicate with agency personnel and students to determine goodness of fit and secure placement confirmation;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of field education orientation for MSW Distance Education students, field educators, and task supervisors;
  • Teach field education seminar for MSW Distance Education students (MSW Generalist Practice; MSW Advanced (Clinical) Practice) as Clinical Assistant Professor based on 4:4 workload;
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours to support student professional and academic needs;
  • Provide field-related supervision, as needed, for MSW Distance Education students (MSW Generalist Practice; MSW Advanced (Clinical) Practice);
  • Conduct field placement visits at mid-year, year-end and as needed;
  • Monitor student performance in field placement on an on-going basis - observing student development of CSWE-identified competencies through field education seminar; field education site visits; one-on-one engagements; and field education evaluations;
  • Review quality of field educators, task supervisors, and field placement agencies to determine their appropriateness of on-going student engagement;
  • Troubleshoot problem situations within the field education setting for students, field educators, task supervisors, and agencies;
  • Provide immediate notification to Field Education Director, BASW Program Director, and/or MSW Program Director regarding any field placement related issues;
  • Work with Field Education Director to develop and monitor MSW Distance Education Student Improvement Plans and/or make determinations regarding field placement continuance, as needed;
  • Review field placements to determine future viability and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and/or expansion;
  • Assist Field Education Director in developing and maintaining field education policies and procedures including field education manuals for students and field instructors;
  • Support on-going development and oversight of electronic placement system ensuring compliance with documented policies and procedures and making recommendations for necessary changes, as needed;
  • Work with Field Education Director to prepare necessary reports related to field education performance and assessment;
  • Work in partnership with Daemen College Social Work and Sociology faculty and staff to utilize evaluation information and develop curriculum and/or training opportunities;
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, and profession;
  • Identify potential partnership opportunities for Social Work and Sociology Department;
  • Attend annual professional conference(s) to support professional development and networking; and
  • Other duties as specified.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited college or university
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York or other jurisdiction
  • Minimum: Two-years post-MSW experience
  • Minimum: Three years-experience in field education as instructor and/or task supervisor
  • Minimum: Five years-experience with supervisory and/or administrative roles or functions

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and agency administration
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management/organizational skills
  • Comfort with use of technology especially as it relates to student and field education communications (e.g., website, use of social media platforms)
  • Experience with field placement management software

This is a full-time position. Benefits are available the first of the month following the full-time employee's date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance.
