A global destination for artists and arts enthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativity through five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renowned summer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer of more than 600 annual performances by internationally celebrated guest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; Interlochen Public Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations (classical music and news); and Interlochen College of Creative Arts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.

 

The Program Director - Musical Theatre works with other members of the Theatre faculty to evaluate, develop and implement the Musical Theatre curriculum at Interlochen Center for the Arts. This year-round position includes specific responsibilities at both the Academy (our 9-month boarding arts high school) and the Camp. At the Academy, this position works to create high-quality educational and artistic experiences for students in the Musical Theatre track. The Program Director - Musical Theatre directs musicals each Academy year in addition to teaching a full load of classes, including courses in Acting Technique and other key curricular offerings. During Camp, this position works closely with the Director of Theatre to oversee all aspects of the Musical Theatre program, from recruitment and admission through curriculum design and performances. Teaching and directing duties will also be included in the summer.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversees development and continued growth of Musical Theatre at Interlochen in the Academy and at Camp. Collaborates effectively with Theatre faculty and Interlochen Presents staff. Develops curriculum that adheres to high performance standards. Teaches a full load of Theatre classes within the Academy and Camp. Directs productions each year at the Academy and at Camp. Attends and engages in weekly departmental meetings. Prepares students for the rigors of the college audition process. Works with the Office of Admission to recruit mission appropriate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in theatre required, MFA or MA in theatre preferred Significant professional performance experience and/or directing experience in musical theatre required Teaching experience at the high school or college level

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with curriculum development Experience developing theatre programs Strong ties to theatre programs/people that can foster connections related to student recruitment
