    Summary of Position:

    This position has responsibility for managing and operationalizing a series of national conferences, a certificate program and a publications program that are intended to position the Institute for Public Service as a leader in the public affairs and nonprofit dialogues, with the goals of enhancing visibility, self-sustaining sources of income, program rankings and student recruitment in support of University branding.

    Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all events assigned have a successful outcome. This involves managing all operational activities for the events. The events include, but are not limited to the ASPA Performance Symposium and Annual Performance Measurement and Reporting Conference. The operational activities include, but are not limited to, assisting in identifying and confirming keynote speakers, panel chairs and panelists. Creating program booklets or handouts and conference agendas. Will also handle the event publicity, marketing and visibility strategies prior to conferences. Compile notes and presentations for use by participants, for publication and for visibility subsequent to conferences. Develop plans for continuation of conferences annually. Assist in drafting funding proposals to underwrite conferences.
    • Develop and operationalize digital visibility strategies for Strategic Performance Management (SPM) certificate program and related journals: Public Performance and Management Review, American Review of Public Administration, and Public Voices by operationalizing Facebook, Twitter and similar social media accounts for each journal. Coordinate with social media initiatives of commercial publishers of Public Productivity and Performance Handbook, Public Performance and Management Review and of American Review of Public Administration. Coordinate with the Office of Marketing and Communication other pertinent offices on journal visibility for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts.
    • Develop online case-based teaching publications for widespread distribution. In coordination with SBS and the Suffolk Library, identify appropriate content, with permissions, from public, nonprofit and related organizations. Enter content into template on regular basis. Develop and identify distribution lists for marketing purposes and enter into Constant Contact program. Publish cases with a Suffolk University announcement. Track views and a summary of metrics to inform future marketing and visibility strategies.
    • Assist with development of IPS-related website content to aid inp visibility, rankings and student recruitment. Coordinate efforts with the Office of Marketing and Communication to redesign IPS website so as to emphasize issues that are important to prospective students, such as the calling to public service, career paths in government and nonprofit organizations, famous MPAs, the missions of government and nonprofit organizations, degree programs and curricula offerings, job and network resources, faculty, research and publications, etc. Coordinate gathering of content. Post content to websites. Track website usage metrics. Regularly update and revise content.
    • Assists with communication strategies focused on improvement of rankings. In conjunction with faculty, identify ranking opportunities in the fields of public affairs, public administration, public and nonprofit management, etc. Maintain Constant Contact lists of faculty in related areas. Identify deadlines and push content to faculty lists on a timely basis. Make recommendations to IPS faculty as to curricular and programmatic terminology, initiatives and outcomes that would likely result in improved rankings. Track rankings metrics and develop reports, highlighting best practices among schools and programs that have succeeded in improving rankings.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • A minimum of 1-3 year3 of works experience and strong proficiency in updating content on websites.
    • Work experience and proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs as well as graphic design, publishing and communications software.
    • Comprehensive understanding of necessary public management capabilities.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Customer service—experience working with MPA and similar students
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to devise a system for organizing and archiving files, records and publications,
    • Personal attributes—excellent interpersonal skills, reliable work ethic, ability to coordinate and problem solve with staff
    • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required. Availability to participate in conferences and meeting out of the office is required.
