Vacancy Number: S-00710 Position Title: Academic Advisor Classification Title: Student Advisor Department: Central Advising Employment Type: Full-Time Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide academic advisement to underclassmen in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Science and the College of Science; Provide personal, career and/or academic counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention for targeted groups of students; assess students’ academic needs; develop, implement, and monitor individualized academic plans for students

Coordinate and monitor student data and academic history pursuant to federal, state, university regulations; meet with appropriate administrators as necessary; create and maintain case notes, student records, reviews, and related documents; and serve as liaison with agencies/school systems/University departments as needed.

Ensure students receive proper advisement towards degree completion; Work closely with University units to provide holistic academic support; create referrals and coordinate with other units as needed to assist student development and success.

Provide academic counseling/advisement for students in matters related to goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling/selecting; assess student academic needs.

Assists in registration coordination procedures and schedule adjustments including verification.

Develop and/or complete school documents such as classroom assignments, plans of study, curriculum guides, and graduation forms.

Verify student and course information which may include: class rolls, grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, statistical analyses, and/or forced drops.

Evaluate and/or update student records in order to post grades, do graduation checks, monitor students’ progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study.

May assist with recruitment of prospective students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of assigned program or function
Knowledge of functions, operations, and/or maintenance or equipment being used
Knowledge of acceptable advising and/or recruiting techniques and practices
Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations
Skill in making written and oral presentations Interpersonal skills
Ability to advise students
Ability to tutor students
Ability to evaluate student performance and measure progress

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
