Infrastructure Systems Analyst

Butler University ’s Information Technology department is currently seeking a passionate and accomplished Infrastructure Systems Analyst who is eager to join a team which values education, collaboration, innovation, and fun while creatively supporting Butler IT’s vision and mission.

As part of IT’s Infrastructure Operations team, the Analyst will primarily focus on Butler’s enterprise computing environment including oversight/management of directory and authentication services (single sign-on, two-factor authentication, Active Directory, LDAP, etc.) Additionally, the Analyst will support Butler’s Microsoft 365 tenant including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and other associated services including system backups and spam management, as well as key information security systems including data loss prevention (DLP) and endpoint protection. Throughout all of these activities, the Analyst will contribute to cloud and SaaS architecture and innovation strategies and ensure enterprise systems are maintained in a healthy, reliable, efficient and cost-effective manner while striving to deliver an outstanding level of customer service and client experience to students, faculty, staff and other various client groups. Butler IT’s Infrastructure Operations t eam currently oversees: 325 Windows and Linux Virtual Servers; 250 Virtual Desktops; 300TB+ of storage; 2500 desktop/laptops (Mac and Windows); nearly 1000 access points; 150+ network switches and 11,000 devices on the network .

Key accountabilities of the Analyst include:

  • Provide and be committed to exceptional customer service and proactively undertake initiatives that improve customer experience.

  • Resolve support incidents/requests (cases); ensure problem ownership and promote end-user satisfaction. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems as part of a team.

  • Oversee university’s single sign-on system including new SSO implementations and maintenance, support, updates, and troubleshooting of existing implementations

  • Manage and support university two-factor authentication systems, including Duo and Google Authenticator

  • Administer, support, and update Active Directory (AD) and LDAP authentication /directory systems

  • Provide support and oversight for university’s Microsoft 365 tenant including advanced support and troubleshooting for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and others

  • Administer, support, update and maintain enterprise email spam, malware, and virus-filtering solution



  • Work with end users to resolve instances of data loss prevention (DLP) violations and detected instances of malware on endpoint machines



  • Train front line support staff in addition to creating and maintaining procedural and knowledge base documentation



Minimum requirements of the position include:

  • 2 + years of experience in a full-time technical role with responsibilities related to Key Accountabilities listed above

  • Experience deploying various versions of Windows with an understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP

  • Experience supporting/managing/administering an enterprise Microsoft 365 tenant including the specific applications related to Key Accountabilities



  • Experience with implementation and support of single sign-on systems and two-factor authentication systems

  • Ability and desire to thrive in a team environment

  • Willingness to work extra hours when needed; some evenings, early mornings and weekends



Preferred requirements include:

  • Project management/budgeting experience

  • Experience leading a small to medium-sized team of technical professionals

  • Experience with email filtering software Proofpoint or similar solution

  • Exper ience with managing public cloud infrastructure



  • Experience in enterprise backup solutions

  • 4-year degree in a technical field

  • Experience with vendor relationship management

  • Project management/budgeting experience

  • Experience in a higher education and/or a large/complex IT organization



  • Experience with writing, organizing and maintaining technical documentation



Additionally, qualified candidates should possess the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail; demonstrated teamwork skills

  • Proven customer service and telephone skills; professional appearance and demeanor under pressure



  • Desire to learn and support multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.)

  • Ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize and solve problems

  • Experience leading small and mid-sized projects

  • Ability to organize/manage work that is assigned from different sources while balancing shifting priorities

  • Flexibility in a changing environment and self-starter, capable of making independent decisions



  • Character traits, including the following: trustworthy; exhibits bias for action and avoids analysis paralysis; seeks to understand before being understood; client advocate; and willing to change and try new things
