Lourdes University invites applicants for the position of Office of Accessibility Services Coordinator.

The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) Coordinator will operate from the Academic Success Center (ASC). The primary function of this position is to provide support for students with disabilities to provide equal access to the learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promotes and integrates the Franciscan values of community, learning, reverence, and service
  • Conducts all intake interviews; reviewing documentation for accommodations, processing all registration paperwork, meeting with individual students, determining accommodations
  • Maintains confidential student information in Access database, including communications, changes, and services provided
  • Coordinates accommodations for students on campus, including:


-note taker assignments and management

-classroom setups, equipment, furniture placement

-residential accommodations (through Director of Housing)

-sign language, captioning, and transcription services

-exam proctoring for scribes, screen reader programs

-alternative format textbooks and materials

-equipment training

-others as needed

  • Checks schedules each semester to gauge accessibility of classrooms for mobility-impaired students, coordinate with Registrar’s office for relocation of courses
  • Provides Academic Adjustment Letters to students each semester with student accommodations
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and manages note takers, scribes, and other service providers as needed both on campus and within the community to ensure quality accommodations
  • Collaborates with ASC Testing Coordinator and assures academic adjustments are provided to students with documented accommodations
  • Trains and updates ASC Staff on accessibility procedures, accommodation software, and on-line testing procedures
  • Assists with administering and proctoring exams in ASC for students with accommodations and other students, as needed
  • Serves as advocate for students and for disability related issues, to educate and bring awareness to the campus community
  • Represents OAS at Lourdes University Open Houses, Registration Days, as well as classroom presentations, high school transition fairs, and other events as needed
  • Assists students in acquiring accommodations for state board testing (NCLEX, PRAXIS, MCAT, GRE, and any other pre and post-graduation exams for licensure)
  • Collaborates with the campus community to ensure inclusion and accessibility for all classes, events, areas, venues, and services provided


ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Coordinates the Academic Coaching program


- Meets with students needing academic coaching conducting intakes and scheduling

appointments in TutorTrac

- Assists in the hiring and training of academic coaching

- Maintains policies and procedures for academic coaching tutors

- Evaluates and reports on the academic coaching program each semester

  • Collaborates with other staff in collecting data and preparing statistics for the year end annual report
  • Assists users with University supported software packages and other technology resources
  • Actively participates in college community functions (such as, open houses, orientations, commencement, convocation)
  • Participates in professional development opportunities
  • Stays current on best practices in accessibility
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of student data
  • Performs other duties as requested


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in education, social work, psychology or equivalent; Masters preferred
  • Experience in learning centers, computers systems, and software systems preferred
  • Demonstrates expertise in computer software, but not limited to Microsoft Office
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must work well with people and be committed to providing a nurturing approach to learning
