The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), in
association with the Middle East Centre and St Antony’s College,
propose to appoint an Associate Professor in the History and
Politics of Iran.
We invite applicants with expertise in the modern history and
politics of Iran, and a strong background in Iranian studies more
broadly. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and
supervise at the undergraduate and graduate level, contribute to
administration and examining, and act as a College Adviser for
graduate students. The post will be held in conjunction with a
Governing Body Fellowship at St Antony’s College, and the
post-holder will be a Fellow of the College’s Middle East Centre.
The post-holder will have a room for teaching and research in the
Middle East Centre and will be expected to contribute to the
administration and activities of the Centre.
You should have received a doctorate in the modern history and/or
politics of Iran, by 1 September 2021. The successful candidate
will demonstrate: research achievement at an international level
appropriate to the stage of their career; the skills and commitment
to contribute effectively to teaching, supervision and academic
administration in the School; and fluency in the Persian
language.
While the Associate Professor rank at Oxford spans the full range
of professor grades in the USA, we are keen to receive applications
from early career academics, and would especially like to encourage
applications from women and people of colour, who are historically
under-represented in Oxford.
Appointments to Associate Professorships are confirmed as permanent
on successful completion of a review during the first five years.
If you would like to discuss this post and find out more about
joining the academic community at Oxford, please contact Professor
Eugene Rogan, Director of the Middle East Centre
(Eugene.rogan@sant.ox.ac.uk /telephone: +44 (0)1865 284773), or
Professor Timothy Power, Head of the Oxford School of Global and
Area Studies (timothy.power@lac.ox.ac.uk / telephone: +44 (0)1865
284779).
All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence; they will not
form part of the selection decision. Any offer made will be subject
to pre-employment checks. Further information on St Antony’s
College may be found at http://www.sant.ox.ac.uk.
