Iḷisaġvik College in the city of Utqiaġvik, Alaska seeks an experienced and collaborative leader to serve as its next Dean of Academic Affairs. The Dean of Academic affairs is responsible for providing academic leadership that fosters excellence in teaching and learning for students. The Dean of Academic affairs provides strategic leadership for the College that includes supporting and guiding

Iḷisaġvik’s vision, mission, goals and student learning outcomes.
The preferred candidate will oversee the following divisions: Instructional Programming (Academic and Career & Technical Education), Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, Educational Technology, and the Tuzzy Library.

The ideal candidate will be an approachable, collegial and collaborative leader with a demonstrated track record of mentoring and supporting faculty and staff development as well as monitoring and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prioritizing two areas of focus: 1) overall leadership, administrative and relationship oversight, and 2) accreditation through assessment, reporting and evaluation.
  • Providing effective leadership and communication with faculty, staff, students, the general college community and other stakeholders; serve as an advocate for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Inspiring faculty and staff to work together to build and sustain outstanding academic programs with the capacity for growth.
  • Advising and representing the President in academic matters as needed; provides and prepares presentations and reports as requested.
  • Collaborating and helping foster relationships between faculty and the student services team to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
  • Overseeing the division’s annual budget and working closely with department leads to ensure fiscal oversight.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies; serving as the Accreditation Liaison Officer, accreditation committee lead, and coordinating and reviewing documents and reports to maintain successful accreditation compliance.
  • Developing, monitoring, and maintaining a systematic evaluation plan for the academic programs to ensure congruence with national standards, professional guidelines, or expected competencies and to evaluate program outcomes.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the President.

The ideal candidate has accreditation experience in a higher education institutional setting and demonstrates a commitment and ability to provide leadership and direction in promoting student retention and academic success. The preferred candidate will have a proven track record of effective communication and diplomacy, and an appreciation for and cultural fit with a diverse Alaskan community.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • PhD or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years demonstrated professional management experience in a post-secondary setting.
  • Minimum four years of demonstrated teaching experience at the instructor level or above in a post-secondary institution; Faculty credentials commensurate with the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
  • Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development.
  • Evidence of and commitment to promoting and sustaining diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership, teaching, and mentoring.
  • A team-building, empowering leadership style with a proven track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent management skills, open to direction and a collaborative work style.
  • A professional and approachable style, possessing a spirit of warmth, humility, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Salary range: $120,397.97 - $137,252.54 annually DOE. Iḷisaġvik College offers competitive benefits, including 14 paid holidays, 36 days of paid leave, and personal transportation.
