PRIMARY DUTY: A nine-month teaching position responsible for providing instruction within the School of Communication & Mass Media. The successful candidate will teach lower and upper division courses in Digital Media and to develop/or restructure courses to match industry needs. This position is flexible in terms of teaching focus; we are looking for a candidate who fits our Digital Media program, but exact courses taught will depend upon the skills of the candidate. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching within a comprehensive state university, engagement in student and university service, and the promise of scholarly achievement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach one course that covers these digital media topics: UX, Google Analytics, content flowcharts and wireframing.
  2. Teach at least two of the following areas: basic media design principles with an emphasis on information and communication design; basic social media marketing principles with a client focus; writing social media content; SEO principles.
  3. With the help of other digital media faculty, act as a liaison with other departments in this interdisciplinary major.
  4. Have familiarity with multiple delivery systems, including blended, online, and distant learning formats.
  5. Have familiarity with advising students in undergraduate course programs and in application for graduate programs and employment opportunities.
  6. Have familiarity or experience working with diverse populations or completed coursework demonstrating understanding of diverse populations.
  7. Have familiarity with developing academic programs.
  8. Provide department service, including student organization assistance and sponsorship.
  9. Provide university service, including committee work.
  10. Have experience in any area of digital media.
  11. Creative/scholarly research in academic field.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

        Education: ABD or Doctoral degree for Assistant Professor OR Master’s degree for Instructor in the field of Communication, Mass Media or related fields    

        Certification/License: Driver’s license

        Experience: Successful teaching experience and/or relevant experience in the field

        Skills: High-level knowledge of User Experience (UX) principles, including content flow chart and wire framing; high-level knowledge of Google Analytics             

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Consistent with Mass Media area goals, the candidate should be able to facilitate media development from conceptual design through content delivery. The School of Communication and Mass Media is a collegial, team-based modern academic environment with current video and audio equipment. Each faculty member has an individual office with internet access, and is provided a University laptop.

SCHOOL: The School of Communication and Mass Media offers seven degree programs that span the communication and mass media disciplines, covering advertising, applied advertising, broadcasting and production, interactive digital media, multimedia journalism, public relations, organizational and interpersonal communications, speech/theatre education, and sports media.
