Reports to: Vice President, Academic Affairs Grade: D63 Date: March 2021
A high-energy, equity-minded, data results-focused academic leader who brings a record of innovative program development and academic success along with the skill to lead faculty and staff in establishing and achieving common goals. The position requires focus, commitment and expertise in student success, persistence and completion. Experience working with four-year colleges and universities in program development and collaboration on grant-funded projects. Experience in grant-writing, grant-management, resources planning and managing and conducting annual course-level, general education and program-level assessments.
The Dean of Liberal Arts, Business, and IT contributes to the overall leadership of the college, providing leadership to the Honors College, Phi Theta Kappa, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and New Faculty Orientation. Ensure compliance with program, state and regional accreditation. Proactively support innovations in programs and methods of delivery to maintain leading edge status.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic leadership mindful of trends and challenges in community college education
- Manage the academic programs and faculty ensuring quality for the students
- Develop academic programs and student support services, including the design, development, assessment, and articulation with four-year colleges and universities
- Provides leadership in the development and use of appropriate instructional and service delivery systems and assessment of student learning at all levels
- Markets programs and services and together with faculty monitors enrollment/use/satisfaction/learning success/graduation/transfer trends
- Initiate, develop, and manage grant applications funded projects in concert with the grants manager and appropriate staff/faculty
- Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental and program operating budgets
- Supervises and evaluates full- and part-time faculty and staff in assigned divisions. Works with program coordinators and division assistants to develop instructional schedules and staffing
- Encourages and supports faculty and staff development activities
- Coordinates the recruitment and selection of full-time faculty and staff for the division with appropriate faculty/staff and the Human Resources Office
- Participates in tenure decisions and communicate decisions to division faculty
- Investigate and resolves student complaints and grievances in collaboration with appropriate faculty and administrative officers
- Develops, supports, and monitors short- and long-range goals, strategic plans and program assessment in the division
- Guide faculty and student support staff in a year-long program review process
- Provides administrative support for assigned committees
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with other departments and divisions within the college
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with businesses, educational organizations, governmental and community agencies where appropriate
- Plans, develops and implements articulation and cooperative agreements with other educational institutions including school districts, other community colleges, and transfer colleges and universities
- Ensures knowledge of the college mission, vision, and purposes and compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal laws
- Write reports and documents according to college requirements, division and grantor needs
- Plans events such as symposia, professional development activities, art, music and humanities programs, and partner and grantee programs
- Other related duties as assigned
- Master’s degree and college teaching experience in one of the academic disciplines within the Divisions required, doctoral degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years community college administrative experience preferred, four-year college or university experience considered.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain partnered programs between or among educational institutions: high schools, community colleges, and universities; and between or among non-profit agencies, businesses, and corporations.
- Demonstrated ability in planning and resource management.
- Experience in Illinois community college governance and funding, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and administrative colleagues.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Lewis & Clark mission required.
