Full-time Faculty -Studio Art in Graphic Design

The Lorain County Community College (LCCC) Division of Arts and Humanities is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Graphic Design and Digital Art.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Graphic Design classes and other responsibilities for the Art Department, working with students to become innovative and creative in digital media artists.  LCCC’s Art Department is accredited through NASAD, and this faculty member will be responsible for assisting with accreditation reports and self-studies. 

LCCC faculty activities will vary among different classifications of faculty, within different educational disciplines, and over time. Not all of the duties and activities will be applicable to every faculty member in any given year.

All full-time faculty members are responsible for the following:

Teaching Faculty

The primary responsibility of teaching faculty is student learning. To fulfill this responsibility, teaching faculty will:

• Be responsible for all aspects of teaching and delivering the credit courses to which he or she is assigned.
• Participate in curriculum and program development, including program review.
• Advise students in curricular and discipline-related matters when appropriate.
• Assess student academic achievement.

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design program prepares students for this dynamic, rapidly changing industry by integrating design and technology.  The instructor’s primary responsibility will be teaching the Graphic Design sequence, for a total of 5 courses/annually, and an additional course in a related area, for example photography, design theory/history, digital fabrication etc.  The course sequence consists of three levels of Graphic Design classes, Web Design and Typography.  Students enrolled in the Graphic Design sequence are required to take prerequisites in Studio and Digital Art, including Drawing, 2d Design, and Digital Imaging.  Graphic Design maintains the largest enrollments in the Studio Art Curriculum, and in addition to the 2-year Associate of Arts Degree, students are able to earn short term certificates in Graphic Design and Digital Animation.

The instructor will be expected to develop the program in accordance with current standards within the field of design and graphics technology and collaborate with the faculty and administration to maintain and support our ILab, a state-of-the art computer lab within the Campana Center for Ideation and Invention. Graphic Design students will be encouraged to develop visual problem-solving skills using the variety of media platforms available in the Campana Center, including the FabLab and new VR Cave.  The Graphic Design program maintains robust internships within the college and community as well as our internal Unity Lab.  In addition, Lorain County Community College has transfer agreements with colleges and universities in the area to facilitate the transfer from LCCC to four-year institutions.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate Degree in Graphic or Visual Communication Design, and documented professional experience as a designer.  (MA/MFA in Graphic Design or Visual Communication Design)
• Secondary skills in any of the following: Design History, Design Theory, 2D Design, Color Theory, Film Photography, Digital Photography and Video, Digital Fabrication (Fab Lab), Illustration, 3d Design, AR||VR, Game Design
• Minimum of three years teaching experience at the College level
• Recent expertise and professional accomplishments in an area of graphic design, including professional portfolio and exhibition events
• Facility with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, XD)
• Familiarity with maintenance of Mac Pros, Large format Printing, and image acquisition technologies.
• Knowledge of CANVAS or other online teaching systems
• Experience with curriculum development
• Experience with multi-media design

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with NASAD accreditation standards and requirements
• Five-years teaching experience at the College level
