Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs: Budget & Research, the Director of Sponsored Programs provides comprehensive expertise, knowledge, support, oversight, and management to faculty and administrators seeking external funding to support scholarship, research, equipment, curriculum development, travel, and other activities that strengthen teaching and scholarly/creative activity at Trinity University.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Five or more years of professional experience working within a university or college setting.
- The demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sponsors’ grant-making practices.
- Knowledge of Federal compliance regulations on Conflict of Interest for research, Human subject protection, and export controls.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- A demonstrated disposition to work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals, departments, and disciplines.
- Strong computer skills, including interface with multiple electronic systems and databases.
- A willingness to support the mission and values of Trinity University.
- An earned Ph.D. or doctorate.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers the sponsored research program for the University. Serves as the subject matter expert to advise and assist faculty members at all stages of grant-seeking, grant negotiation and amendments. Provides recommendations to facilitate grant approval.
- Promotes and enhances a culture of grant-seeking as a component of an engaged and active faculty. Develops and provides opportunities for faculty development to facilitate proposal development, approval, and compliance.
- Develops collaborative and institutional grant proposals in conjunction with key stakeholders.
- Negotiates sub-awards and other original research agreements. Assures compliance with external sponsors and other research compliance areas; complies with & revises university policies. Reviews contract language and collaborates with PI’s to resolve issues with sponsors.
- Monitors regulatory developments, provides updates, and develops and delivers training as required.
- Manages the institutional proposal endorsement process.
- Maintains documentation for active agreements.
- Identifies appropriate cost sharing sources of funding and identifies appropriate cost sharing sources of funds.
- Assists in the awarding of undergraduate research grants at Trinity University.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs : Budget and Research.
Appointment Details
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The position can begin June 1, 2021.
Experience
Required:
- A minimum of two years of professional experience working within a university or college setting.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience supporting grant activities (e.g., pre-award proposal development, service as a principal investigator, post-award administration, grant-making opportunities).
Preferred:
- Five or more years of professional experience working within a university or college setting.
Education Requirements
Required:
A Master’s degree.
Preferred:
An earned Ph.D. or doctorate.
