Assistant, Associate, or Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Penn State Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full professor in the broad area of water resources engineering with emphasis on smart water infrastructure and systems. In particular, applicants with expertise in sensors, data collection, analysis, modeling, optimization, prediction, and/or real-time control are invited.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate intellectual depth and promise for high-quality research as well as a commitment to teaching excellence, and will assume a key role in interdisciplinary research and teaching collaborations. This search is part of the Penn State cluster hire in water resources, co-funded by the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE). The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 33 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $18 million, and U.S. News and World Report graduate program rankings of 21st for civil engineering and 26th for environmental engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, twelve NSF CAREER awards, and one NAE membership. Excellent opportunities exist for candidates to interact with faculty on multidisciplinary projects through the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, Sustainability Institute, Center for Climate Risk Management, Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, Materials Research Institute, Larson Transportation Institute, and the Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory, among others.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline, at the start of the appointment. The new hire will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and is expected to enhance the department's existing curriculum.
