General Summary/Purpose:

The Health Policy Research Scholars (HPRS) Program is a leadership program that trains full-time doctoral students from populations underrepresented in specific disciplines and/or marginalized backgrounds as leaders in health policy. These groups include racial and ethnic populations, as well as individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged and underserved backgrounds, and students with disabilities. The purpose of this program is to support and enhance the doctoral training of students from different disciplines who are committed to advancing the Culture of Health as well as encourage students to participate in interdisciplinary research that impacts health policy. The program provides training in health policy, leadership, communications, and equity, and offers mentorship, coaching, social support and networking opportunities to enhance their success. Scholars remain at their home institutions located across the United States and mainly participate via online education, although the Program offers required and optional in-person sessions throughout the year. The Administrative Program Coordinator for the HPRS National Program Center (NPC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) in Baltimore, Maryland will provide program coordination and support in accomplishing the HPRS goals. This position reports to the Deputy Director of the HPRS NPC at JHSPH and works closely with both the Director and Deputy Director. The position is grant-funded and will be supported through August 31, 2025.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organize, prioritize, and track the daily operations and developmental progress of multiple assigned projects, maintaining all files and related data.
  • Proactively communicate, collaborate, and build relationships with HPRS leadership and staff, faculty, advisory committee, scholars and other stakeholders- both internal and external.
  • Draft professional communications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the NPC Deputy Director in maintaining and overseeing project budgets.
  • Respond to applicant inquiries, regularly communicate via email, phone, and video conferencing with applicants, and monitor the HPRS dedicated email box.
  • Serve as a point of contact for current scholars and alumni concerning program activities.
  • Play a lead role in organizing and convening meetings and events- both online and in-person.
  • Assist with managing events on-site, ensuring that operations are in accordance with Program goals and objectives; maintain relationships with attendees and resolve or manage resolution of major problems and issues as they arise.
  • Serve as a point of contact with external network of schools, associations, consultants, and organizations as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

Bachelor’s degree

Three (3) years of experience in program management and/or project management.

* JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience..For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in policy or a public health-related field.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
