Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides multi-culturally informed direct clinical services, including initial consultations, intake assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, relationship counseling and crisis intervention to a diverse body of JHU student-athletes. These services will be provided at the Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being.
  • Provides psychoeducational workshops, outreach, and consultation services to the Athletics community. In addition to programming targeted toward the student-athletes, programming will be provided to coaches, sports performance staff, and administrators to help them best support the student-athletes and reduce barriers to counseling.
  • Provides and participates in opportunities for less formal interactions with student-athletes, including informal drop-in hours focused on the reduction of barriers to counseling, and attendance at games, practices, and/other athletics events.
  • Works collaboratively and consults with sports performance staff, Student-Athlete Development, Coaches, and Administrators in the Department of Athletics to develop and provide a network of supportive services forstudent-athletes.
  • Serves on the Student-Athlete Wellness Team, and collaborates with colleagues across campus regarding best practices and supportive services for student-athletes
  • Provides afterhours (as backup to ProtoCall) on-call shifts, in rotation with the rest of the clinical staff.
  • Shares expertise and provides training regarding student-athletes to CC staff, including CC doctoral interns.
  • Works to remain up-to-date regarding the literature on the needs of student-athletes and research supported strategies and interventions for this population.
  • Attends all relevant Counseling Center meetings, including ongoing supervision, and professional development programming on-site at the CC.
  • Provides services to the wider student population if the need arises and availability allows

Education:

  • Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology and must be either (1) licensed as a psychologist in Maryland or (2) eligible to be licensed as a psychologist in Maryland and obtain licensure within 2 years of hire

Experience:

  • Experience providing services, including counseling, outreach and consultation, to student-athletes.
  • Experience providing services to college students.
  • Experience in collegiate athletics preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Possess the ability to work with a wide range of college student presenting concerns in individual and group counseling, with special expertise and experience working with student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.
  • Ability to effectively engage audiences during presentations.
  • Commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations.
  • Commitment to one’s own ongoing development of multicultural competence as a psychologist.
  • Specialized training and/or certification in mental skills for athletes and/or sport psychology valued.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
