General Summary/Purpose:

The eLearning Technician supportsthe development of complex branching projects produced by ELearning Developers and develops short interactive exercises, course tools, and interactive video.

The incumbent must have a basic understanding of adult online learning principles, and competence in the use of eLearning authoring tools such as: Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate, . Experience with interactive development tools such as H5P is a plus.

This position may work remotely. May be required to be on site at either the Harbor East or DC campus up to 20% of the time.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities 60%

  • Support interactive media production for multiple courses in development, revamp, or revisioning.
  • Support multiple ELearning Developers in production of complex, high quality interactive lessons and simulations
  • Help develop templates and repeatable interactive styles
  • Develop unique instructional interactive learning experiences for students using H5P and Articulate Storyline/Adobe Captivate
  • Be able to take outlined interactive ideas and bring them to life with technical skill in a way that meets Carey standards for production value, accessibility adherence, and brand alignment.
  • As staffing allows, be able to coordinate interactive development work in collaboration with other multimedia team members.
  • Be part of the QA process for other multimedia team projects
  • Perform basic editing as part of the development of interactive videos

Media Studio Production Support [15%]

  • Occasionally support Video Specialists with studio recordings as needed. Helping with tasks such as equipment setup and teleprompter operation.

Quality Assurance of 3rd Party Developers [15%]

  • Reviews 3rd party interactive content for quality and consistency as needed.

Research [5%]

  • Keeps abreast of developments of related media technologies.
  • Researches and disseminate media technology resources

Faculty & Staff Training [5%]

  • Use expertise to provide training for faculty and staff produced interactive content related to course support

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Four years related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  • Concentrations in Web Design, Multimedia, Instructional Design, related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience in an institution of higher education with instructional technology support, instructional design or in tech support.
  • Experience developing asynchronous training sites & materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience taking concepts/ideas and creating multimedia content.
  • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Media Encoder, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
  • Working knowledge of filming equipment (HD Camera, microphone, studio lighting, and teleprompter).
  • Some technical skill with Articulate Storyline/ Adobe Captivate
  • Experience with or ability to learn interactive tools such as H5P
  • Keen eye for visual design

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of lecture and screen capture tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate/Storyline, Panopto, Kaltura etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and their application in teaching and learning.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
