Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Social Work within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW ), seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Lecturer, nine-month non-tenure track position in the Social Work program beginning August 2021.
This position will be primarily located at the UNCW Onslow Extension Campus in Jacksonville, NC, serving as the primary contact for the BSW Program on the Extension Campus, and would oversee the administrative functioning of the academic program. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching courses in social work, serving on School and College committees, and working closely with the BSW Coordinator to coordinate the functioning of the Onslow BSW social work program.
Included responsibilities are overseeing and processing student admissions; conducting recruitment of prospective students; coordinating advising of extension students; and facilitating regular collaboration and communication between full-time and part-time faculty, staff, students, in Jacksonville and surrounding communities. Currently, the typical teaching load for lecturers is four courses per semester with one administrative course release per semester for program coordinators.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
• Two years of practice experience.
Qualified candidates will also possess administrative and teaching experience, preferably in an academic setting.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following qualifications:
• Experience teaching and working with students in a college setting.
• A Licensed Clinical Social Worker
• Experience in social work field education
• Five years post MSW practice experience
Candidates who show attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and experience with diverse populations are especially encouraged to apply.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Social Work ( SSW ) is dedicated to the development of excellent social workers through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact. Our School prepares our students to help individuals, families, and groups discover and build upon their own strengths and external resources to meet the challenges of poverty, discrimination, health and mental health issues, and other difficult life situations. UNCW social work graduates work in social service, health, and mental health agencies in Southeastern North Carolina, throughout the state, and across the country. The School of Social Work is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, a Student Learning Commons and Success Center, and a state-of-the art Simulation Learning Center. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical, and social development for Social Work students, while incorporating interprofessional collaborative experiences with students across the other degree programs in the College.
The SSW offers both the BSW and MSW programs from the strengths’ perspective, with emphasis on practice labs, small classes, and specially reinforced field instruction. The MSW program has a clinical concentration, specialized coursework in solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational theories.
