The Division of Academic Affairs encompasses a wide array of activities and functions that ensure the overall academic quality of the institution. This includes providing administrative oversight and academic leadership for: the College of Business Administration; the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities; the College of Science and Health; the School of Education; Murphy Library; Admissions; Records and Registration; Financial Aid; Career Services; Academic Advising; University Graduate Studies; Extended Learning; the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs; the office of Undergraduate Research and Creativity; the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning; Institutional Research; and International Education & Engagement. Academic Affairs also provides leadership and support to the nearly four hundred full-time faculty and instructional academic staff, 73 percent of whom hold terminal degrees. Through its various functions, the Division of Academic Affairs supports students in the pursuit of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education as well as scholarly activity.
Position Summary
The Student Services Coordinator, with a working title of Admissions Counselor, will report to the Director of Admissions. This position plays a very important role in the recruitment and outreach activities of the Admissions Office. Our goal is to increase the number of applicants to the University, and enroll a talented and diverse student body. This staff member will meet with prospective students and their parents, high school counselors, various groups on and off campus, alumni and other contacts to promote the opportunities offered at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Particular attention will be given to targeted populations that add to the diversity of the student body, including academically talented students, underrepresented minority students, and non-residents. A significant part of the recruitment process will be establishing and nurturing relationships that can serve as a conduit for students to learn about UW-La Crosse. This staff member will collaborate with other Admissions Office staff members, working together to coordinate recruitment activities. Extensive travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (degree must be posted by June 15, 2021)
• Excellent written communication and public speaking skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to lift and transport materials up to 35 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Strong organizational and event planning skills
• Ability to be adaptable and manage multiple competing priorities
• Ability to use and learn multiple computer technologies (such as Peoplesoft, ImageNow, Microsoft Office)
• Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds
• Experience in admissions or related areas of higher education, and/or marketing
Physical Demands
Lifting and transporting materials up to 35 lbs. is required.
Working conditions and environment
Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. However, numerous evening and weekend hours will be required. Ability to travel throughout the Midwest by automobile is also required.

• Coordinate and implement a personalized recruitment program involving high school visits, phone calls, correspondence and campus visits.
• Represent UW-La Crosse during high school visits, at college fairs, college night programs and other events.
• Meet with prospective students and families in a variety of settings.
• Be familiar with the academic programs of the University and other opportunities available.
• Be knowledgeable about all aspects of the admissions process for new students, including admissions policies and procedures, standardized tests, financial aid, costs, placement exams, registration procedures, residence life, etc.
• Participate in campus visitation programs (such as Campus Close-Ups, Admissions Information Sessions and other visit options).
• Present admissions information to small and/or large groups of prospective students/families in a variety of settings.
• Serve as “counselor on call” as assigned to address needs of those visiting campus.
• Follow-up with applicants to encourage submission of all required application materials, deposits, etc.
