The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellors Office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.

Position Summary

The Event Support Coordinator is responsible for supervising the Audio Visual Lighting Services area within University Centers. In addition to the job responsibilities outlined below, areas of ability and knowledge include: excellent interpersonal communication skills, understanding of acoustics and sound reinforcement theory, understanding both the language and technical specifications included in contract riders, liability and risk management as it pertains to production work, broad overview of all currently available technology in the areas of sound, light, and AV equipment, ability to lift/move heavy equipment, and the ability to work in a lift at heights up to 30’. Some evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours are required for this position. Limited evening and weekend phone calls for technical assistance can also be expected. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Operations, University Centers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of job-related education and 2 or more years of
related experience.
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with sound and lighting systems.
• Supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a higher education setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse clientele.
• Experience with Extron/Crestron equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficient in Word & Excel.

Physical Demands

• Ability to work on lifts up to 30’ high.
• Lifting/moving of sound and lighting equipment (up to 75 lbs).

Working conditions and environment

• Anticipate occasional weekend and evening work with flexibility to meet event needs.

Duties to Support Responsibility

• Coordinate recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff.
• Cover all necessary work shifts as necessary due to student emergencies (death in family, illness, etc.) and during the beginning and end of semesters.
• Create and track staff budget.

Set Up, Operate, and Troubleshoot Sound, Lighting, and Multimedia Equipment

Duties to Support Responsibility

• Serve as the on-site coordinator for all large events.
• Serve as the lead audio engineer offering a high level of artistic quality and knowledge of structure and equipment integration.
• Secure backline equipment and other services and equipment as needed for events.
• Provide professional quality lighting services while utilizing digital lighting consoles with installed and portable lighting systems.
• Serve as equipment operator for all facets of sound production, including but not limited to: digital and analog mixing consoles, line array amp/speaker systems, wire/cable management, and digital and analog signal processing equipment. Possess thorough knowledge of backline, media splits, wireless, dynamic, and condenser microphones, monitor systems, and VHF / UHF transmitting devices. Possess ability to quickly problem solve technical issues.
• Establish and enforce guidelines and standards for overall event logistics including but not limited to communications, stage safety, sound pressure limits, stage logistics, load-in, load-out, appropriate staffing, and special requests such as foggers and pyrotechnics.
• Utilize and secure maintenance for aerial work platforms (lifts) and chain/motor rigging systems.
• Support UWL events outside of University Centers facilities as assigned.
• In conjunction with the University Information Technology staff and contracted maintenance vendors, maintain and replace
• Manage the music service for the Union public areas.
• Create and implement AV Training for University Centers Building Managers, Information Center staff, and Reservations staff.
• Coordinate duties with the Evening and Weekend Event Coordinator.

• Assess equipment needs and create annual purchasing requests and long-term replacement budgets.
• Assist with maintaining the University Reservations and Event Support Services website.
• Establish policies for equipment rental/use and event staffing.
• Attend all-staff and operations meetings.
