Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

As a member of the Department of Surgery Research Administration team, the Research Coordinator will be supervised and primarily trained and directed by the Director of Research at the Injury and Violence Prevention Program ( IVPP ). This position will responsible for assisting Director of Research to support coordinating research administrative tasks and may include involvement in research activities (e.g., recruiting participants, coordinating participant payments, scheduling). The Research Coordinator duties include (but not limited to) managing the grant budget(s)/finances, supporting cohesion of administrative and research tasks, scheduling research-related meetings and training, maintaining research protocol compliance, ensuring research staff remain up to date on certifications, scheduling meetings, coordinating with participants for follow-up assessments and payments, supporting research staff in their duties, coordinate travel arrangements for research team, assist with grant preparation, submission, and pre- and post-award management, and the preparation and management of all regulatory documentation (e.g., IRB ).

Minimum Hiring Standards

Must have excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Strong problem solving and time management skills are essential, including managing competing priorities and deadlines. Must be precise, thorough, and reliable and perform daily activities with moderate supervision. Must be able to proactively ask questions and seek guidance when needed, and work independently when needed.

Must be proficient in the use of computers with an ability to learn new systems and software applications with ease. Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe required.

Ability to work in a diverse environment required.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Bachelor’s degree in in psychology, public health, administration or related field.
Skills or prior experience in the areas of analyzing financial transactions for trends and variances; creating reports, tracking tools, and professional documents; budget development; expense forecasting; financial reconciliation. Experience preparing reports and present scientific findings. Experience prioritizing, organizing and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously. Experience with community engagement for research. Proficient with Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with data management. Ability to handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines. Must be organized, responsible, punctual, with ability to pay close attention to details. Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Knowledge of federal, state, and private sources for grant funds.

Any prior experience in psychology, administrative, and financial management in an academic setting (to include a working knowledge of state/university purchasing, travel, personnel administration policies and procedures) will be preferred.
