About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Photography Manager, the Staff Photographer is responsible for producing a wide variety of images, including daily news coverage, priority events of all kinds (including presidential events), portraits, and research activities, creative images to support communications and marketing campaigns, and capturing moments of campus life in general.

The Staff Photographer is an individual who is skilled at capturing moments that tell stories in a variety of contexts—without missing a deadline. They are fast and organized with remarkable problem-solving skills, impeccable taste, good judgement, and excellent attention to detail. The Staff Photographer is a proven visual storyteller with a wealth of ideas to propose and execute, and the willingness to experiment and innovate in order to tell the best stories about the university and its people.

The Staff Photographer will collaborate with others on the Communications team, including designers, developers, news reporters, videographers, multimedia, social media and media relations professionals to promote the university to audiences within and beyond Northeastern.

The Staff Photographer is based on Northeastern's Boston campus. This position is not eligible for remote work. Like all staff members in Communications, the Staff Photographer will occasionally be required to work outside of regular business hours, including weekends.

Responsibilities:
Produce a wide variety of creative, high-quality images of people and events for News@Northeastern, high priority university websites, as well as select print publications produced by the university.

Enhance quality of digital images as appropriate to prepare them for publication; archiving the images to make them easily retrievable.

Plan and coordinate with writers, editors and

others in communications to identify appropriate concepts,

people and locations for photos assigned. Scheduling and coordinating studio and on-location photo shoots to complete assignments.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• 5+ years of professional experience in an editorial photography position
• Experience producing various types of photography with both natural and studio lighting including portraits of people, environmental portraits images of objects, on-location news coverage, crowd shots, etc.
• Knowledge of digital imaging and editing software. (Photoshop, Photo Mechanic) is required.

• Assist with editorial selection of photos for news coverage for News@Northeastern.
• Ability to edit, tone, caption and archive images within the university's digital asset management system.
• Nikon experience.
• Familiarity with Wordpress.
• Experience in multimedia.
• Excellent creative vision and high level of attention to detail.
• Experience in a journalism/storytelling-driven environment.
• Excellent work ethic and a positive attitude / Great sense of humor and the ability to communicate with others.
• Organizational skills.
• Experience with photography at a news organization is a plus
