FLSA Status: Exempt (Full-time 10-month Faculty Position)


This position provides management and oversight over operations of Theatre Program productions, faculty responsibilities, and help running some events in the theater venue. This position reports to the Theatre Program Director.



  • Provide oversight and support artistic goals of the theatre program
  • Teach 6-7 credit hours a semester or receive appropriate release time for production design. Courses will be based on experience and skillset but could include Stagecraft, Stage Management, Production Management, or courses in the Entertainment Technology program
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Theater Operations in supervising and managing the Theatre Scene Shop to include creating and implementing efficient systems for production protocol and operations, organizing tracks, and maintaining inventories of scenic elements, props, drapes, furniture, costumes, tools, equipment and supplies
  • Plan, schedule and implement the construction of a scenic design for the Theatre Program productions using knowledge of standard theatrical construction techniques accurately and safely
  • Assure proper safety measures are followed including regulations under OSHA & NFPA electrical and life safety codes
  • Ensure design deadlines are implemented; ensure artistic and technical integrity is maintained throughout the production; read all rehearsal and performance reports and ensure that all notes are addressed in a timely manner
  • Participate in season planning in conjunction with Theatre Program Director
  • Help execute the set up, tear down, and running of live events held in the theater for both internal and external clients
  • Provide mentorship and supervision for students and interns with theatre productions
  • Maintain a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and diversity
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Associate degree plus four years’ experience in related field or a Bachelor’s degree and two years’ experience in a related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse artistic population
  • Knowledge and experience with internet and computer software applications (i.e. AutoCAD, Outlook, Work, Excel, database, etc.)
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Must be positive, cooperative and supportive
  • Preferred qualifications include two years’ full-time teaching experience, preferably in Theatre and/or Entertainment Technology; previous technical director experience; experience in budget development/management; supervisory experience; master’s degree (as needed for placement above the Senior Lecturer Rank)


The work requires the ability to perform a medium level of physical work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to constantly move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
  • Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings
  • Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter
  • Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
  • Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another


College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, and campus environments.  Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic laws when/if driving a College vehicle.



The selected candidate will be placed on the 10-month Carroll Community College Faculty Salary Scale.  Rank at hire is contingent upon qualifications and experience.  Position includes excellent fringe benefit package which can be found at:

The College pays one-half of reasonable travel expenses for the first visit and pays the entire cost of travel for the second visit. The College does not pay relocation expenses or offer tenure. However, following a one-year probationary period, year-to-year contracts are provided until three years of satisfactory service are completed, after which time 3-year contracts are provided.
