Assistant or Associate Professor (wot) in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine

Position Description

The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is seeking applications for one full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor without tenure, commensurate with experience, to join the growing Molecular Imaging and Nuclear Medicine service at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2021.  School of Medicine faculty members have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1-June 30).  In addition to clinical activities, responsibilities will include instruction of medical students, diagnostic radiology residents, nuclear medicine residents, and molecular imaging/nuclear medicine fellows.  Productivity in research and other academic pursuits is mandatory for promotion.

The University of Washington/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Molecular Imaging/Nuclear Medicine section is based at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, South Lake Union Campus.  This rapidly growing service provides nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapy services and offers clinical trial opportunities for SCCA patients in an outpatient setting.  The clinical PET/CT and general nuclear medicine imaging services have experienced steady growth for the past 5 years.  Under the direction of the recently appointed Director of Molecular Imaging at SCCA, Dr. Delphine Chen, the clinical therapy practice has more than doubled in volume, with a rapidly growing Lu-177 dotatate service, recent opening of the I-131 thyroid cancer service, and impending opening of the PSMA-targeted therapy service.  Consultation services for both patients and providers have also expanded significantly, leading to highly collaborative, multidisciplinary participation of nuclear medicine in the oncology practice at SCCA.  Multiple diagnostic and therapy radiopharmaceutical clinical trials are also run or supported by the SCCA nuclear medicine service.  Finally, with the impending expansion of the SCCA, the addition of a PET/MR and additional PET/CT and SPECT/CT cameras will further increase clinical volumes and provide ample opportunities for clinical and translational research.  As a result of this rapid growth, the SCCA seeks to add a full-time clinical nuclear medicine physician or nuclear radiologist to the SCCA practice.

This position is based at the SCCA and will report to Dr. Delphine Chen.  Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.  This position will interpret oncologic PET/CT and general nuclear medicine imaging studies.  Successful candidates will be expected to engage with all team members across departments and patients to develop long-term collaborative relationships that enrich and enhance SCCA's reputation for being patient-centered in all aspects of cancer care.  The successful candidate will be expected to focus on fulfilling all clinical service expectations, including but not limited to providing outstanding image interpretation, conducting thorough patient evaluations, providing reliable provider consultations through tumor boards and ad hoc requests, fully engaging and responding to any necessary activities to support clinical collaborations around patient care, administering therapies safely and effectively, supporting all clinical trial activities, and participating in call.

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• D., or foreign equivalent, in the field and eligibility for full medical licensure in Washington State
• Successful completion of one of the following
  • Combined nuclear medicine/diagnostic radiology residency with diagnostic radiology board certification,
  • Diagnostic radiology with nuclear medicine fellowship and diagnostic radiology board certification,
  • Nuclear medicine residency with diagnostic radiology board certification, or
  • Nuclear medicine residency or fellowship.  If the candidate has only nuclear medicine training without diagnostic radiology board certification, the candidate will be required to complete ACR CT reader requirements within the first two years on faculty.
• Excellence in academic achievement as demonstrated by a record of scientific or educational presentations and/or publications.
• Experience with regulatory and clinical trial requirements for evaluating novel radiopharmaceuticals.
• Experience with all aspects of administering radiopharmaceutical therapies

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, additional specialty training in relevant areas such as chest or abdominal imaging.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
