• Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals who possess:
• Experience with intercollegiate athletics administration.
• Experience fostering student development and a commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
• Experience with campus recreations programs, intramural sports and/or fitness centers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in diversity, inclusion, gender equity and Title IX.
• Demonstrated experience with managing and developing budgets.
• Experience with fundraising and community relations.
• Experience fostering a collaborative work environment and partnerships.

Work Hours

Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.

This is an administrator position responsible for planning, initiating, facilitating, leading and evaluation of the functions and activities essential in providing a quality district intercollegiate athletic program; campus recreation programs; fitness centers and the Sports Training Center. Provide administrative leadership in the areas of planning, organizing and supervising sports and recreation programs, budgets, personnel, fitness facilities, and fundraising to ensure program effectiveness. Ensure intercollegiate athletic program compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association ( NJCAA ) rules and regulations.

Typical Essential Duties

• Manages and evaluates intercollegiate athletic, fitness and recreation programs consistent with the mission of MCC and in collaboration with campus leadership.
• Plans, organizes, implements, and administers a comprehensive athletic program for the District; evaluates and assesses program viability and effectiveness; initiates program improvements as necessary.
• Ensures college policies and procedures are maintained in the administration and supervision of the athletic, fitness and recreation programs.
• Ensures strict adherence among personnel and student athletes to college and NJCAA policies, regulations, and codes.
• Administers compliance with national, regional, and state athletic eligibility for all student athletes. Ensures student athletes meet academic and health eligibility criteria as outlined by the NJCAA . Oversees the recording and submission of all athletic eligibility documentation to the NJCAA . Maintains and archives student athlete records.
• Develops, administers, and assesses the college’s student-athlete recruitment and scholarship program, ensuring compliance with college, NJCAA, and Title IX roles and policies.
• Develops, implements, and administers a comprehensive student-athlete success program, collaborating with campus academic and student support services staff and monitoring and reporting the academic progress of student-athletes.
• Ensures equity of opportunity in men’s and women’s athletics including being current on legal requirements, tracking data, and completing required annual federal reports.
• Plans, develops, and administers the college-wide athletic, fitness center and sports training center budgets including monitoring expenditures and projecting associated costs. Coordinate fundraising activities, in collaboration with the Foundation, for the athletic program and manage funds accordingly.
• Provides administrative oversight and coordinate logistics for home and away games and tournaments including but not limited to scheduling facilities, hiring game officials such as umpires and referees, training rooms for opposing team, contracts for home games, and logistics for away games including transportation, overnight accommodations, and meals.
• Oversees and manages logistics for athletic and fitness facilities, intramural sports and recreation programs.
• Develops and provides administrative oversight with the department’s communication and marketing plan to include regular communication to campus departments, students, and community regarding athletic events, game schedules, game/player highlights, statistics, and athletic information through print, electronic media, and outreach activities.
• Oversees the conditions and rental of all sports playing fields and indoor facilities for associated and scheduled events in collaboration with the campuses.
• Recruits, hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates coaches, volunteers, and full-time and temporary staff.
• Implements risk management protocols with the District’s Risk Management office.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: feeling, grasping, hearing, fingering, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
