Title: Cook's Assistant - On Call

Position Purpose:

Bates Dining, Conferences and Campus Events oversees all student dining and is also the College’s catering provider. Staff holding a cook's assistant position primarily work in student dining providing approximately 5000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the college who dine in Commons. They are also called upon to prepare items for catered events as needed. As such, this position calls for someone who is able to safely, efficiently and consistently produce and present food in a high volume setting. A focus on providing outstanding customer service and exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.

Job Duties:
  • Under general supervision, performs the following duties, which may include but are not limited to, preparing student meals, preparing catering events, and assisting in the Cold Kitchen, Den,
  • Bake Shop and Service as needed.
  • Following proper production and sanitation standards are being maintained.
  • Following standardized recipes.
  • Displaying a pleasant demeanor and helpful attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Serve Safe certification required.
Experience

Previous experience in a collegiate food service environment desired.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Understand and thrives in a high volume food service environment.
  • Creativity and expertise in most facets of food production.
  • Basic culinary knowledge to include knife handling skills.
