Job Summary

The Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University seeks a Director of Choral Activities to begin August 2021. This is a 10-month full-time temporary faculty position for academic year 2021-2022. An appointment including designation as the Amos Distinguished Chair in Music may be made in the case of an artist with an established national or international reputation.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: maintaining and building upon a vibrant program of choral activities, in collaboration with colleagues; conducting the University Singers, Choral Union, and other ensembles as appropriate; participate actively in student recruitment; demonstrate ongoing engagement with creative activity as scholarship through performance as conductor; in addition, may teach courses such as conducting, class voice, diction, or production related courses depending on the candidate's qualifications and the needs of the school; working collaboratively with faculty members from the voice area and the theatre department on opera and musical theatre productions; and participating in department, university, and professional service.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have at minimum a completed Master's degree in Choral Conducting or a related field; or equivalent significant professional experience; teaching experience at the college level or equivalent significant professional experience; evidence of high quality, sustained scholarly/creative activity in music performance; and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and master's level teaching and student recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the preparation of choruses for professional collaborative projects and candidates with a doctoral degree or significant work toward a doctoral degree.
