Vacancy Number: S-00712 Position Title: Working Warhawk II - UNIV Peer Mentor Classification Title: Department: UNIV Student Success Program Employment Type: Part-Time Duties and Responsibilities:
UNIV Peer Mentors aid in the successful transition of new students to AUM by
connecting them with the AUM community and available resources.
Duties:
Build community within the classroom
Uphold the mission of Auburn University at Montgomery
Provide a student perspective on UNIV class discussions (topics: healthy decision- making, AUM history and traditions, etc.)
Encourage reflection and growth (journals and other writing/discussion assignments)
Lead meaningful and engaging class activities/discussions (implementing active learning strategies, scheduling presentations/guest speakers, planning out of class activities, service-learning, study groups)
Responsibilities:
Attend every UNIV class meeting for which you are assigned Meet with the instructor once per week
Hold office hours (two hours per week) in the Library/ WASC
Organize study and other educational activities as requested by instructor
Reinforce class concepts and provide a positive student perspective
Attend scheduled training/meetings for Peer Mentors
Encourage and coordinate meeting times for AUM events with the class and attend with the group
Assist students in making connections with appropriate staff and student groups on campus
Connect students with AUM resources and services Model appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, Title, IX, etc.
Attend AUM sponsored events, such as New Student Orientation, New Student Convocation, and Warhawk Welcome, and engage with students and other internal and external customers
Other tasks as directed by the instructor
Submit weekly peer mentor logs documenting your activities and interaction
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Dedicated to helping others succeed Confident in your ability to lead
Able to speak in front of a classroom of students
Comfortable leading group discussions
Minimum Qualifications:
A current AUM student with a 2.5 GPA (minimum) and submit an unofficial transcript
Have taken and passed UNIV
Complete the application process (answer supplemental questions, participate in an interview, and provide references from two of your AUM professors)
Completed two semesters at AUM (full-time status)

Time commitment for fall and spring semesters is five hours per week for 15 weeks during the semester (75 hours) and seven hours of training and workshops (five hours pre- semester and two hours during the semester in which you are employed). For summer semester, mentors will work nine hours per week for eight weeks and attend seven hours of training and workshops (five hours pre-semester workshop and two hours during the semester).
Mentors are paired with a UNIV professor and class based on their schedule and availability.
Mentors will be asked to participate in various activities during the summer semester, such as Orientation, Mentor/Mentee Meet & Greet, etc.
