Visiting Assistant Professor or Lecturer of Chinese

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Skidmore College invites applications for a full-time one-year visiting position in Chinese language instruction for the 2021-22 academic year. Successful candidates will teach five courses of the Chinese language at all levels (with the possibility of one course in English on Chinese language and culture, satisfying the College's non-western/global culture requirement) over two semesters. Minimum requirements include Ph.D. or ABD, preferably in applied linguistics, language pedagogy, and instructional technology; excellent record in teaching Mandarin at the college level in the U.S.; native or near-native fluency in both Chinese and English; and being competent to teach traditional and simplified writing systems.

A complete application dossier should include the following: a cover letter explaining your qualifications and experience, a statement of teaching philosophy, a current CV, samples of teaching materials development, and three letters of recommendation. Additionally, a teaching demo in the form of a link to a video of one instructional session (45-55 minutes) is required. The deadline for applications is April 30th. Review of applications will begin immediately after the deadline and will continue until the position is filled.
