The Indiana Academy serves approximately 250 juniors and seniors who are gifted and talented from across the state of Indiana and through its international program. The Indiana Academy’s major purpose is to provide educational opportunities appropriate to the ability and development of its students. It is a primarily residential high school with several local non-residential students. Through various outreach programs, the Indiana Academy strives to stimulate and enable vitality in educational programs for students who are academically gifted. The Academy is committed to creating innovative programs and practices that attract, retain, and nurture a diverse Academy community.

Position Function

Manage the operation, evaluation, development, promoting and supervision of all academic programs of the Indiana Academy; comply with pertinent federal, state and local laws and administrative rules, policies and regulations of the university; communicate with the diverse publics of the Indiana Academy.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree in science, mathematics, humanities or education from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience

At least one year of experience as a school administrator.

Minimum Other

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (writing and speaking skills); outstanding interpersonal skills.; commitment to maintaining a diverse community of students and adults.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Doctorate in Science, Mathematics, Humanities or equivalent from an accredited Collage or University.

Preferred Experience

At least three years of experience as a school administrator; knowledge of research and effective programs for working with academically gifted students; successful grant writing experience.

Preferred Other

Willingness and ability to teach.

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Oversee the supervision and evaluation of the faculty, staff, and students, and programs associated with them; assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal and training and career development of personnel; and supervise records.



Job Duty

Contribute to the intellectual life of the Academy, Teachers College and the university through scholarly activities and committee memberships



Job Duty

Oversee the continuing development and evaluation of curriculum and instruction at the Indiana Academy’s academic programs.



Job Duty

Coordinate special education and 504 plans.



Job Duty

Provide direct supervision, evaluation, and leadership in the professional development of Academic Affairs personnel; supervise assigned office staff in accord with Academy and university policies.



Job Duty

Provide leadership in maintaining an appropriate level of academic and psychological support for Academy students.



Job Duty

Develop, coordinate, supervise and evaluate extra-curricular activities which relate to the academic curriculum and programs.



Job Duty

Provide leadership in the development, coordination, and evaluation of the administrative and student management system (i.e. class scheduling, attendance and academic record keeping).



Job Duty

Develop, coordinate supervise and evaluate the technology support provided for Academic Affairs programs and activities.



Job Duty

Serve as liaison with Burris Laboratory School and other units of Ball State University on matters that affect the programs within Academic Affairs at the Indiana Academy.



Job Duty

Enforce all Academy regulations and administer a system for student discipline including “due process”; supervise and coordinate the intervention and retention process.



Job Duty

Find and complete appropriate grants that further the Indiana Academy’s mission.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
