The Multicultural Center is currently seeking a dynamic Multicultural Retention Coordinator professional to promote and drive the office’s mission which provides programs and services to encourage educational, personal, social and cultural growth among the College of Lake County’s diverse student population.

Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities, the coordinator of Student Organizations and Multicultural Programs is responsible for facilitation of co-curricular programs, multicultural competence, student leadership opportunities, and an overall campus climate that fosters student development. The coordinator will develop and facilitate events, workshops and seminars that complement classroom instruction and help students build leadership and life skills (e.g., diversity, budget management, conflict resolution, etc.). This position will also assist with other key initiatives, including participation with community organizations, and developing and implementing services such as financial literacy programs, peer mentoring program, financial aid counseling, and other data driven initiatives.

Required Qualification

1. Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, social work, psychology, communications or related field.
2. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Demonstrate sensitivity and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, especially African American.
4. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software skills.
6. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Desired Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree in education, human services, social work, psychology, communications or related field.
2. Work experience with implementing student outreach or retention programs, services and activities.
3. Knowledge and understanding low income and first-generation college students.
4. Bilingual in Spanish and English

Summary of Essential Functions

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (70%)
• Create and Implement an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access ( IDEA ) workshop and training catalog applicable to the Division of Student life and related campus initiatives:
• Host workshops/ trainings and retreats that can serve as cross-functional opportunities with academic courses and co-curricular opportunities with direct learning outcomes
• Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop an IDEA manual and related program resources available during the academic year.
• Promote IDEA workshop/trainings through cross-functional campus teams or committees
• Oversight of the student Bias Education Support Team.
• Research best practices in services for IDEA work to encourage program involvement
• Develop and facilitate multicultural programming activities (e.g., Latinx Heritage Month, Black History Month, Asian-Pacific Islander Desi-American History Month, PRIDE Month, etc.) to foster cultural awareness and diversity.

Programming (30%)
• Facilitate and oversee non-multicultural student clubs and organizations. Assist in the development of club constitutions/budgets, organize meetings, and facilitate club leader trainings, host workshops and monthly Club Council meetings for all student clubs and organizations to review college policies and procedures.
• Facilitate the partnership between Student Activities and Inclusion and classroom instruction with intentional co-curriculum programming supporting course learning outcomes. Develop goals and means for reaching and maintaining faculty involvement in the co-curricular partnerships.
• Support other Student Activities programs.
• Develop assessment techniques to determine success of established programs. Track participants progress and analyze results to recommend program improvements.
