This is a 12 month position as the Research Associate Professor of Health. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating human health-related research with particular focus on underrepresented minorities. The successful applicant will develop a high-impact, nationally recognized research program focusing on emerging issues in the health research arena that will incorporate a wide spectrum of ailments including heart failure, HIV, diabetes etc. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physiology and biochemistry and must be able to study fundamental mechanisms, apply epigenetic principles for studying underlying causes of diseases to find solutions for health issues previously indicated. Specific research areas in applied and fundamental health research can vary depending on the candidate’s expertise and interest and will ideally complement current departmental expertise in food, nutrition and exercise science. The appropriate candidate will have experience in pharmacology research settings with a wide focus on different diseases affecting underrepresented populations. The selected candidate will provide leadership for the health area in Food, Health and Nutrition ( FNH ), and will serve the research needs of the populace regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or veteran status. CESTA at CSU is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. The candidate is expected to develop an independent research program with external funding that is relevant to the communities in Ohio, nationally and internationally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Collaborate with other researchers in the ARDP by providing expertise in emerging issues related to health.
• Mentor and advise students and other staff in research and extension.
• Provide leadership in health research in the ARDP program in CESTA .
• Engage in research to develope collaborative research with hospitals and institutions engaged in health research, Federal and private, as well as the pharmaceutical industry for drug delivery and consultations.
• Engage in funded research in areas of expertise.
• Conduct and publish research in area of specialty.
• Participate in university and professional development activities.
• Serve on university-wide committees.
• Establish oneself in community service and collaborate with CSU’s cooperative extension program in extending research to CSU stakeholders in agriculture and other water users.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director for Research.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in the field of biochemistry/physiology or related fields with applications to health issues.
• Extensive experience in research in a wide variety of health issues including heart failure
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in the area of health;
• Demonstrated skill in securing grants or strong potential to secure extramural funding in the food sciences;
• Experience and interest in mentoring/teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant research experience in reputed institutions.
• Evidence of the ability to collaborate.
• Evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations with diverse audiences including faculty, stakeholders, and other clientele within and external to the university.
• Involvement with recognized professional associations or organizations.
• Represent Central State University as an 1890 Land Grant Institution to the public including federal and non-federal agencies, and research, agriculture and industry interests.
• Ability to transfer information through scholarly publications, patents and presentations at scientific meetings and through technology transfer to agriculture and industry groups.
