The App Developer and Aquaculture Educator will provide leadership and guidance in the development, delivery and evaluation of multi-discipline Extension web-based applications. This individual will also work alongside Extension Regional Educators to provide aquaculture programming and assistance to farmers across the state of Ohio. to The individual will work well in a team environment using strong verbal and written communication skills.
The App Developer and Aquaculture Educator will report to work at the Central State University Campus in Wilberforce, Ohio, and will report to both the Associate Extension Administrator and the Agriculture and Natural Resources ( ANR ) Program Leader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Understand client requirements and how they translate in Smartphone application features
• Collaborate with University and Land-Grant IT professionals when applicable to set specifications for new applications
• Write high quality Smartphone applications within deadlines
• Perform unit and integration testing before launch
• Conduct functional and non-functional testing
• Troubleshoot and debug Smartphone applications
• Provide technical assistance on aquaculture/aquaponic production practices and business management
• Support educators in workshops, training programs, and farmer interactions regarding aquaculture/aquaponic systems. Topic could include but are not limited to: the size of tanks, number of fish, biofiltration and aeration requirement, development of feed tables, stocking and harvesting procedures, and assist in troubleshooting issues
• Partner with educators to create fact sheets, videos and web resources to help farmers with aquaculture/aquaponic systems and business management
• Submit daily programmatic activities and success stories
• Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
Required
• Master’s degree in aquaculture or other closely related field.
• Proven experience as Smartphone application developer
• Ability to program in at least one programming language
• In-depth knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools
• Demonstrated leadership, communication written and oral, mentoring, teamwork, and group process skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, including prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
• Knowledge and understanding of the Extension organization, operation, philosophy, and commitment to diversity, equity, and intentional outreach to underrepresented community members
• Ability to plan and maintain a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekend work to meet time demands and/or special needs of program management.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with required liability insurance, to be utilized for frequent travel.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
• Five years or more of experience working in fish culture
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
