The Legal Compliance Officer will address effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and assist General Counsel with legal review and compliance issues.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform research and provide interpretations of rules, regulations and policies as requested by General Counsel
• Collaborate with Student Affairs, Campus Safety and internal departments to ensure on-going compliance with FERPA, Title IX, the Violence Against Woman Act ( VAWA ) and the Clergy Act in the investigation and reporting of crime and judicial violations on campus
• Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding employment law including but not limited to FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, USERRA and OSHA
• Perform and/or coordinate internal audits of regulated areas on campus to ensure compliance
• Stay up to date on current trends and legislation in the industry and communicate this information to the appropriate constituents
• Assist Administration and Finance with the legal aspects of state or other required audits
• Serve as a campus resource for regulatory questions;
• Develop, coordinate and participate in educational and training programs to enhance compliance and awareness of compliance issues;
• Monitor application and enforcement of all federal, state and local regulations concerning hazardous materials, and all other physical and biological agents
• Oversee, develop and implement comprehensive policies, procedures, programs, reporting mechanisms, services and activities to satisfy compliance requirements set by the university, sponsors, and regulatory agencies.
• Serve as the focal point for federal and state assurances relating to internal control and compliance issues
• Assist administration in the planning and formulating of policies for new facilities
• Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Juris Doctor required
•Admission to Ohio bar or ability to obtain admission upon hire required
•The ability to be cross-designated as an Assistant Attorney General required (Additional interview and background check will be required)
• The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Successful, positive leadership and management skills
• Knowledge of federal guidelines for University compliance issue
• Must be detail oriented with ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously is essential
Travel: Must be available for occasional travel within the state of Ohio and/or US.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum five years’ experience in higher education or related field
